Came on Xmas eve. Busy as expected but crowd control was wanting. We had the traditional crispy fish and chips which costs about 14 per dish. We did not expect tartare to be an additional cost, let alone for 2 dollars. There was also no vinegar to be found. I might be wrong, but tartare is generally considered to be a part of the national fish and chips dish and to pay an additional 2 dollars for something that didn't exactly have a 'wow factor' flavour is very disappointing. Furthermore, advertising on Facebook suggests that the tartare is included. The prices at this place are rather exorbitant.
Concerningly, the shop staff were seemingly unawares of a promotion on Facebook, posted earlier that day, which led us to try the place, as we were concerned about the pricing. We only got the promotion after dogged questioning and displaying of Facebook posts on our phone.
Overall the fish tasted fresh and the chips were tasty and of a sizeable portion, with salt/chicken salt easy to access.
However rubbish bins were insufficient for the customer load at the time. On top of all that, the business uses completely unrecyclable single use plastic cutlery wrapped in plastic as well as plastic plates in a town that survives on the beauty of its natural environment. On that day alone, there would be bags of unrecyclable plastic ending up who knows where, potentially in a dolphins tummy.
Perhaps our experience was coloured by the busy workload at the time, but it did not give us the impression that this is the best fish and chips in NSW. It also came across as being sorely behind the times in...
Read moreDelicious and Memorable! It may look like your average neighborhood fish and chips joint, but Beach St Seafoods is anything but! I wandered in, after a long working day on my business trip to Forster, and was immediately greeted by the friendly staff. I ordered the local shark with chips, lemon and homemade tartare sauce, plus Pineapple Fritters and Banana Dream for dessert which was Banana Fritter served with ice Cream, topping of caramel, crushed nuts and icing sugar. The shark was fresh and perfectly deep fried that were deliciously melting in mouth. The chips were beautifully seasoned, and the homemade sauce could not be anything better. The Banana Fritter has been among the best I have ever tasted. By the end of the meal I was planning my next visit for the next trip. This place is great for groups or a casual family night. If you are a big fan of fish and chips places, this place is highly recommended and is a must see when you’re in the region. Don’t hesitate to have a chat with staff about their daily special menu, as they’re so kind and happy to give recommendations. Value for money: 10 out of 10. You will get an amazing food for a very...
Read moreMy husband and I decided to grab a quick lunch here (after I told him how much I enjoyed their fish and chips many years ago) and it did not disappoint! As it was a sunny day we decided to bring our furbaby with us and sit at one of their outdoor tables. As soon as we arrived, staff noticed our dog and promptly brought over a water bowl for him. They also checked in with us after we had gotten our food, which is rare for a basic eatery. We got a seafood dinner pack and mango chilli prawns with salad. The portions are generous and the battered prawns were a highlight for us - they were plump and perfectly cooked. My husband, who doesn't normally like calamari quickly polished his share off, which goes to show how good they were. The batter on everything was light and wasn't greasy/oily at all. I'm so glad this place has stood the test of time and has maintained their quality. Look forward to eating here again the next time we're...
