I arrived around 0730 to an empty front desk and a sign asking me to seat myself. As I walked in I was welcomed warmly in passing by one of the team. Nice. Rain was in the air so I looked for a table under the shelter. I positioned myself out of the way of the workers and watched for an exiting customer so I could claim a table for myself and two siblings. It took 10+ minutes but one opened up near the welcome desk. As I was brushing sand off one of the chairs a team-member with an Irish accent turned around at the desk and told me the table would be for someone else. I explained that I had been waiting near the tables following their sign’s direction to seat myself and now I was doing just that. He insisted I had to join the queue of now 7 people. When I objected that I had already done what their sign had instructed he reiterated that I had to join the queue without further discussion. I said that I would just leave and gave him the menus I was holding for my family. His response: “Yep, that’s fine; just go then.”
Apart from the contrary welcome & farewell approaches, it seems this Irish-lilting waiter needs to learn how to politely assess the legitimacy of my claim, at the very least. His handling of the situation was extremely unprofessional and reflects negatively on my past holiday experiences of both the service and the food. He was bluntly rude and arrogant. I would hope that this is not the new tone of an ungrateful team for the people who provide the custom and wages for this cafe.
Sadly, I was lucky to take my business elsewhere today and thankfully found a new venue for my future breakfasts in Forster. You’ve lost one customer with a large family of mouths to feed. Can you really afford that sort of...
Read moreWe went there on a Sat and it was packed but we put our names down for a table for 2.5 and did not have to wait too long which was great. The table was directly in the sun which we did not appreciate having a 15m old with us but upon request the staff opened an umbrella. The view is great and it explains why the cafe is so popular but we were disappointed with the food and the interruptions. Once we were served the food (came fairly quickly given it was uber-crowded) the staff moved our umbrella away from us to accommodate some larger party and we ended up moving our own table (with the food that had just come) and chairs to make more room. Working in hospitality myself I understand that you do your best to accommodate each guest and avoid waiting time but in the end that detracts from someone else’s experience and family time if they get interrupted and end up moving furniture around. We did not mind giving a hand but we felt like our whole experience was affected. The food was borderline edible. I had a wrap which I thought it was okay but my wife was disappointed in the chicken burger which was over-cooked, dry and bland. The mango smoothie she ordered did not taste like mango, it was nice and creamy but had no definite flavour. The coffee was bitter which is odd since I ordered a cappuccino so for a milky coffee to taste bitter the shot would have had to be pretty bad. Anyways maybe we just got there on a busy day and it’s a one off but overall unimpressed so would rather get takeaway and enjoy it on the beach next time for...
