Now where do I even begin with this review. Let's start with the food. Simply just exquisite. The food that Chef Yusuke sama has created here is magnificent, with the elegant and high quality nature of Italian food infused with the highly refined and delicate flavours of Japanese cuisine. He has simply create such unique and flavourful dishes with each and every item on the menu. When at Beun Modern Japanese, there is simply no mediocre or good food, only masterpieces. In my opinion there is no item on the menu that you can go wrong with, the thought and care when Chef Yusuke sama was creating these dishes must have been on a otherworldly level. This is no surprise as Chef Yusuke sama has had 8 years of Italian cooking experience under his belt. However, personally the dishes I highly recommend are that of, the Angus Beef Carpaccio, the Wagyu Pancakes, the Salmon Confit, and my personal favourite the Sous Vide Chicken. I brought my friend here for lunch, and he describe the Sous Vide Chicken to be the best chicken he has had in his life. In terms of pricing, the foods quality simply justifies the prices and are even in my opinion cheap for what you get, and portion sizes are good. For a main you are looking at around $30.
Now let's talk about service. In the front of the shop, we have the one and only Yayoi sama. Very friendly and efficient. Not much needs to be said here except that the service is exemplary.
Finally, the atmosphere. The atmosphere here is quite nice if you are looking to have a relaxing dinner, whether it's a date, business meeting, catching up with someone, or even just by yourself. It's relaxing and peaceful. Personally this is my go to place for catching up with someone.
To conclude this review, it is easy for me to say that this is one of the best restaurants that I have ever been to with the bonus of only being a 5 minute drive away from my house. Even when factoring the many restaurants I have visited overseas this is definitely top 3. Its phenomenal food, service and atmosphere. Lastly, I cannot recommend this restaurant enough, and your patronage here supports a local business.
And for those who are wondering why I have Chef Yusuke and Yayoi with the honorifics of sama, it's because with the service and food they have here they must have been deities in the past lives and I highly respect them for...
Read moreSuperb food for the discerning. One of the great restaurants of Australia. Should I take a star off for ‘atmosphere’ in view of the unusual location? Or it’s lack of million dollar Sydney fit out? Or put a star back on for the sense of visiting a great chef at his home or secret laboratory where he has perfected his dishes? Into which his wife ushers you - lucky diner? Some of the classic Japanese dishes in traditional style as well. But the modern dishes are where the real interest lies for me, with French technique as well as the Italian and Japaneses styles and ingredients. Two stars in the Michelin guide is: ‘The chef's talent and personality are evident in the refined and inspired dishes’. That is an apt description of what...
Read moreIt was our 8 years anniversary together with my girlfriend. We were looking for a restaurant that is of superb quality with homey characteristics. Then here we are, Beun. We were welcomed by the owners and we got a perfect little corner seating with complimentary Lidnt chocolate (we told them it was our anniversary).
We then ordered 2 entrees: traditional Salmon shashimi with ACTUAL GRATED WASABI and wagyu pancake which was definitely not what you think it is. It was delightful appetisers to start with.
For the main we ordered - barramundi special and spicy misho ramen. Everything in the plate and bowl was handled and created with love and precision.
We recommend it for anyone who wants a premium Japanese...
