Absolutely TERRIBLE, one of the worst meals we have ever had. The wine prices are also very expensive for a tavern. We ordered the garlic bread to start which was not bad, not a lot of butter so it was quite dry. My husband ordered the pork spare ribs 'half' rack, more like a 1/4 rack, the serving was very small for the price. The chips were average and of the low quality frozen variety and the ribs though tender, were quite dry. One taste of the coleslaw and that was enough, it was terrible and for my husband to say that it must have been bad as he is not a fussy eater. I ordered the filet mignon, cooked medium with mushroom sauce, this came with salad and chips. The steak looked like it had been boiled or microwaved then placed on the grill to char, the bacon was soft, hardly cooked and almost jelly like. I tried the mushroom sauce first, yuk! It was terrible! It tasted like very strong instant gravy mix with a few bits of mushroom thrown in. Mushroom sauce is really easy to make so I don't know how they could get this simple thing so wrong. The steak, though tender, was RAW, almost blue. I called the staff member over who apologised and sent it back to the kitchen. I saw the chef take one look at it and say 'it's raw' which he seemed to find quite funny. So while my husband was eating the parts of his meal that were edible, I sat waiting. When my replacement steak arrived I was disgusted. They had cut the mignon in half and butterflied it to cook it through. It looked like a sad piece of cheap rump. Plus, as they had cut it thin, the steak was now overcooked and well-done. I did not want to wait again so I ate it, but without the disgusting sauce. The chips, again, very bland and low quality fried frozen chips and the salad tasted like it had been resting against something sweet like melon or pineapple, must have been the dressing, I didn't eat that either. Overall it was an extremely disappointing tasteless meal, I gave the Hope Island Tavern ZERO stars for food and 1 star for the nice decor. The staff offered me a voucher for the spoiled meal but I declined and advised them that I wouldn't come back even if we got two free meals. Don't waste your time here, there's plenty of good places to eat on the coast without wasting your hard...
Read moreWe attended a 30th birthday function outside the sports bar last night. On arrival, we went to the bar to order drinks and Gia served us. She was unfriendly and slow to take our order and serve the drinks. We didn't think much of it and went outside to enjoy the celebration.
When three of us went back inside to order a drink later on, Gia refused to serve us. She said we could have water and that was all and we could come back in 10 minutes to speak to her again. I went back in and asked for a drink a bit later. I was polite, had only had 3 drinks over the course of a few hours and was still refused service. We had overhead her saying to someone that she had somewhere to be the next morning and wanted to leave early. Seemed like she was refusing service to quite a few people even though everyone was behaving and having a good time.
After going back outside I was approached by security who asked me to leave. He was polite and I asked why I had to leave, "management said you need to go because you're drunk". I wasn't, and he said I didn't seem drunk to him either but it wasn't his choice. Gia came outside while I was speaking to him and my friend asked her why I specifically was being kicked out, she said "the whole party was getting unruly" and somehow I became the target.
Seeing as everyone was just sitting around chatting, no one knew of the "unruly" behaviour she had mentioned, but from the moment we arrived she seemed to not want to be there. She didn't smile while serving anyone, was slow to pour drinks, spilt water because she was glaring at the man she was pouring it for instead of paying attention to what she was doing, and refused service to us without reason.
We ended up going to the Boardwalk, had no trouble getting served there and enjoyed the rest of...
Read moreAttended pokie room. Asian lady playing two machines at once. To be clear she was not reserving and swapping every 3 minutes as allowable under current regulations.
Complaint made it gaming manager (Cheryl). Cheryl stated this is fine as long as it’s every 3 minutes. I stated again she was playing two machines at once. Got told what is my problem? Do I want to play a machine? Asked if this was the rules at this venue as that’s not allowed.
I walked away recording and timing the incident to show Cheryl when I returned to the bar as it had been 5mins. I wanted her to see what I was describing. Upon going back to bar, I said to Cheryl, it was not great having to do your job for you. This upset Cheryl and she raised her voice to the point another staff member came over and told her to calm down.
Getting nowhere so asked for the manager. Paul came out and had the same opinion of me being the issue for raising the breach or regulations. I was shocked! Asked me what I wanted to see happen here and I replied with:
An apology from Cheryl and the regulations to be followed as required by a licensed venue. I got asked to leave and escorted from premise.
Recorded video and timed incident to ensure my complaint with office of liquor and gaming regulation. For all reading this I have posted the rules below 👇
