We’re pretty familiar with Paddock & Bam Bam, so have been looking forward to trying out this new venture. The space is beautiful but cramped and very noisy, line out the door w a high chance of waiting outdoors even w a booking. Also while in line the kayakers headed to the water from the space next door will be constantly passing through the line w kayaks, oars, boards, etc. No one’s fault but something to be aware of. This was a weekday mid morning so weekend would probably be even more crowded. Inside it’s very chaotic, the servers were all lovely but run off their feet. A 30 minute wait for food, which was not an issue as we had drinks and a couple things from the very nice pastry selection. Ordering is not convenient as drinks can be done by QR code but you have to navigate through the dining room which has probably two more tables than it can comfortably fit to go order at the till. Customers and servers seemed constantly in each other’s way. The food was good but not outstanding, presented very well ( better to look at than to eat perhaps) and the prices are pretty high, a fair jump (15-20% increase) from the initial menu based on photos from a few months ago. The salmon bagel is good but the toppings added in a proportion that looks great on social media but not really practical or desirable to eat. Lobster roll had good flavors but the bun to filling ratio is off, handmade crisps a bit too oily. Pasta and sandwich dishes were fine, not especially memorable. The coffee came in a very aesthetic but impractical handleless mug that was burning hot and honestly impossible to touch for a good 15 minutes. We ended up asking for a mug and transferring it ourselves at the table just to drink it. We liked the peach galette best from the pastry cabinet, I would definitely order the large size for a party. Overall it was fine, even good food but not worth the crowded atmosphere and inconvenient parking/line up. The pastries were better than the food so I’d just as soon go to Tarte bakery instead.

🌼 So lovely – flowers, sunshine, great vibes & the kindest staff! Came here with a group of 6 for a friend’s birthday and it ended up being such a sweet, happy surprise. Two of our friends were about 45 mins late (😅) and the staff were still super lovely and patient with us the whole time. The space itself is so pretty — full of flowers and sunshine, and right near Currumbin Creek (which is stunning for a swim or walk before/after). Just a heads-up: it’s more of a bakery-style café (not a full restaurant menu), so the only way to get savoury food is to go for the high tea, which includes bagels, scones and sweet treats. Otherwise, the cabinet is full of really good baked goods — we saw savoury muffins, almond croissants, cookies, etc. We’d originally planned to mix orders from the menu and the high tea, but didn’t realise that wasn’t an option here. We were all pretty hungry after a chaotic morning (breakfast fail at another café), and honestly the staff were so accommodating and just made it work for us — even with dietary requirements, late arrivals, and a bunch of questions. I’m allergic to certain things and can’t drink alcohol, and they kindly gave me a juice instead of bubbles at no extra cost 💛 They offer vegan, veg and GF options, which is such a win. The whole team was friendly, helpful, and fairly efficient for how busy it was! Food and coffee were great as per usual 😋 What's great is that they have table service inside the cafe, but the outdoor takeaway area with tables that is dog friendly and right by the beautiful Currumbin Creek, where you can go for a walk, swim or even paddle board. One of my all-time favourites at the coast! Only tip is to plan ahead with parking — there is parking but it’s limited, and Currumbin is always packed on weekends. Give yourself extra time to find a spot or walk from a bit further if needed. 10/10 would come back for breakfast any day! ✨

Parking can be difficult around here, but thankfully we walked across the river. We also booked because it gets busy as it is, justifiably, popular. The location makes this place even better as you look out across the river, through trees and at bridges near and far. Being multi-levelled means that there are not too many heads to look past to enjoy the views, too. As good as the views are is as good as the food and the service. The staff were all similarly dressed, very friendly and attentive. They came by often enough to ask about our food and drinks without being a nuisance nor ignoring us. There was no pressure on us to leave the table when we had finished eating, despite the queue of people waiting to get in. This was really appreciated as it gave us a chance to let the meal settle before we left, too many restaurants hover about making you uncomfortable when it gets busy. The service was reasonably quick with coffees and drinks delivered without too long a wait. We had been told there would be a delay because of how busy it was, but we didn't have too long a wait. Despite all the other things, it's the food that you come here for and you will not be disappointed. We have smashed avo, French toast, waffles, salad and chilli scrambled eggs. Everything was perfectly cooked and deliciously seasoned. The food, for how delicious it was, was reasonably priced. The prices were comparable to any other Gold Coast café serving delicious food, with such good service in such a restful location.

Parking is extremely difficult.

Brunch time on Thursday.

I struggle to see how this is restaurant as no table service. I was so disappointed as I took myself out for a treat and it says restaurant on their website. I wanted to graze and have my plates taken and asked if I wanted anything else. Which I did I wanted to take way a pastry. I couldn’t be bothered after eating to go back to the counter. No one asked me how the food was.

If you are a normal healthy eater I would recommend sharing a plate as there is no way a lady could eat the huge meals alone. Waste of money and food. I couldn’t share as I was eating alone.

The food was tasty and menu interesting. Just need portion control.

You have to order and pay at the counter. I was so disappointed by this. I thought it was a Resturant. It looks great and I had to wait to be seated. Then the waitress said order at the counter and I never got asked any questions or told I can buy to take away from patisserie.

So I went to the counter and ordered and they asked me to pay.So I went back to my table and got my wallet. I was actually confused as I giggled it before driving half hour.

The coffee was exceptional! 😃

I was disappointed with the size of the meal. What a waste of food! It was absolutely enormous. Cook must have used 4-5 eggs into the miso scramble. Or just had a massive pot pre cooked and used a huge spoon! I was full after a quarter because the bread was really thick and there was also cheese and some kind of oil on the scrambled eggs. I am not on a high protein body building diet! Owner should look at demographics noted below and offer small portions.

There was 15-20 people in the cafe and I didn’t see one man. Many in gym gear didn’t bother to dress up as they obviously know it’s a cafe.

Why not do table service? It’s almost a restaurant anyway.

$18 for Avo on toast?? When it’s not a restaurant is ridiculous. No one wants to eat an entire Avacado either. Happy to pay $12 and have a spread of avo on piece of toast with a $5 coffee. Then sit and chat and possibly go another coffee if the waitress took plates and asked if we needed anything else? Would you like to take a pastry home with you? So many possibilities with table service to move tables out and get more sales through up selling pastries after the fishers are collected.

Too hard to park for a quick coffee and pastry.

The location is the drawcard.

The cafe next door was packed. It is cheaper and exact same view.

I will go...

Disappointing Experience on My Wedding Day

I am writing to express my profound dissatisfaction with the experience I had at your establishment during such an important event as my wedding. While the food quality was exceptional and the presentation impeccable, unfortunately, the service provided by your staff left much to be desired.

The root of my discontent lies in the handling of the reservation for a group of 15 people. A day in advance, I made the request via email, receiving a positive response indicating an exception for a reservation beyond the usual maximum capacity of 12 people. This message instilled confidence and positive expectations for my celebration at your establishment.

However, upon arriving at the restaurant, I encountered an unpleasant situation that marked the beginning of a disappointing experience. Inquiring about my reservation for 15 people, I noticed there was only space for 10 diners. My inquiry to the person in charge, presumably the on-duty manager, was met with rudeness and arrogance.

The manager, a blonde individual with fair skin and an Australian accent, responded disdainfully, stating that reservations for more than 12 people are not accepted. Despite explaining that my reservation had been confirmed via email with an exception granted, the response was in a rude and condescending tone. According to her, she had not received any request and incorrectly assumed I had made the reservation on the same day.

Faced with the situation, I provided the confirmation email as evidence. Although the manager attempted to rectify the situation at that moment, the damage was already done. The initial tone and attitude left a negative impression that affected my perspective and enjoyment of my wedding day.

The decision to celebrate this special day at your restaurant was influenced by pleasant moments shared with my wife at your other establishment in Burleigh Heads. Unfortunately, the current experience has tarnished that positive image.

I hope you take this complaint into consideration to improve your service practices and ensure that future customers do not encounter similar situations. A day that should have been memorable was overshadowed by this...

Today was an awful experience. We live locally, down the road, and I bring my 85 yo auntie every week at 2:15 (they close at 3pm so they are not busy) and we have a weekly catch up. We were greeted with telling us to come back to the ‘be seated’ sign so we can be put in the system and seated. I said we come in and sit every week, the reply was ‘this is our system, is there a problem?! As I stood there staring at a sea of empty tables I didn’t know what to say. So I just said ‘you close at 3 so we usually sit so you can take our order; she looked flustered and said ‘I’m going to get my manager’ and off she huffed! Her senior came out, I explained, we are regulars, we are locals, and we always come in and sit down at this time because theres no queue and you close at 3. She repeated, (without any respect or courtesy for us being regular weekly customers (and I also come with other friends at other times)), pointing to the seating sign, we do need to seat you, is there a problem? I said, I don’t like being spoken to like this when I’m coming in for a cup of tea.

(But what I was thinking was - Yes - the problem is rudeness and a lack of common courtesy and general understanding of the circumstances!)

She then got the manager - who said she was new and has probably told them to always seat customers. I explained, service has declined, friendliness is non existent and smiles, forget it, and we should have been greeted as regulars and not with such harshness.

We were not offered any overwhelming courtesy and chose to leave. We are not returning. After that, even with that beautiful view, Tarte was the last place we wanted to drink our tea.

So unfortunately Tarte has gone from 5 stars to 1 star.

This is an update as I couldn’t write a 2nd review. Please bring back this type of lovely service. We miss it! We still come every week but we all agree it’s not the same style of service. Please train your staff to smile and be friendly. It’s not hard.

I just wanted to compliment Liv and Lucia with their welcoming smiles, chat and service. I have always loved this spot in Currumbin and so happy to see Tarte is operating in tune with our beautiful...
