So disappointed! I had very high hopes given the reviews and lovely ambience and decor at the restaurant.
Restaurant dine-in experience: Unfortunately we waited over 1hr whilst watching a queue of takeaway orders get priority. By the time we got our food, we were the last people left. We should have known given how long it took our drink of canned coconut juice to arrive. I thought they'd forgotten, which I mentioned to my partner. I think they overheard us as lo and behold, it arrived, albeit tasting more sour than usual.
Food wise: When the food finally arrived, the veggie Thai peanut woo stir fry was poor; the sauce was overwhelming given how salty it was, and had the texture and sheen of coagulated gravy - I wonder what was in it. I couldn't have eaten the full dish myself, which was presented badly, as some nicely cooked vegetables simply had a dollop of the peanut gravy on top. The tofu was dry and tasteless beyond the hit of sauce that it hid under. The veggies were good but lacked variety in colour being mostly green. Surely come baby sweetcorn would pair well?
Coconut rice was above average.
Fruity duck curry was tasty, but the sauce was very thin and Interestingly I think the choice of vessel was a mistake since you had to wade through the veg/meat to get to the bit of sauce. The duck meat was dry, "I've had better duck at hawker stalls" quoted my partner, we wouldn't recommend this dish.
I've certainly had better Thai elsewhere at a fraction of the price, I wouldn't return for the food.
The girl serving us kindly apologied for the wait, but when we got the bill we felt royally ripped off, given the poor experience; some compensation would...
Read moreMy friends and I went to Thai Mudgee yesterday. Walking up to the restaurant the first impression was OK except the huge awful sign that covers most of the house front. Walking into the outside area (terrace) we all agreed that the lighting was cold and uninviting. And there again we looked at the signage from the back. The table for 4 was so small that we had problems fitting four dishes on it. We were served by a young lady in a lovely Thai dress. She was very friendly and definitely an improvement from the man waiter who could not find it in his power to smile (?) What concerns the food we found the flavours well balanced and delicious however the texture of the meat (particularly the fruity duck) dry and tasteless. The dishes are definitely too small and would probably be suitable for a ladies lunch. A hungry man would have to order 2 main courses to be satisfied and then of course the dinner would turn out to be rather expensive (over $40) We ordered 2 entrees and 5 main courses (for 4 people) and particularly the men were still hungry. The last dish we ordered was Chicken Singapore Noodles and I could not find any chicken. I believe the potential of the chef is good, however, the quality and quantity of the meat has to be improved. The light fittings need to be changed into something more suitable or at least be dimmed.
I have given it 3 stars only because of the flavour of the sauces.
It was nice to see the restaurant fairly well booked for a Sunday evening in Mudgeeraba. I believe the restaurant could become an even better Mudgeeraba destination if a few changes and...
Read moreSadly, I feel compelled to say that I was VERY upset by the service I received last night! Thai Mudgee has been a regular favourite for my parents & I, & has become the go-to place when guests are in town. We booked a table for 7pm & despite it being very quiet, we did not get served for 25-minutes, whilst the two tables around us were also left covered in dishes. When we were finally served the lack lustre service was the jaw dropping standout! I have been in hospitality for over twenty years & as a Manager I would have fired the Head Waiter on the spot! Noticeably the other table next to ours made similar comments regarding the less than enthusiastic 'service' provided. There was no smiles, no friendly warm service as we are accustomed to. If the Greek Head Waiter from Melbourne (that has always been a welcoming face there has left) or the restaurant has changed management, then take heed Thai Mudgee... If you do not do something about your service, you will soon lose your clientele. The food was, as always, very good so I would still whole-heartedly recommend takeaway, but if you are looking for an allround great dining-in experience, then I cannot in all good conscience recommend it anymore. Bring back your excellent friendly service Thai Mudgee!!! Or you will not pass muster in this new COVID world where hospitality businesses are not surviving. To the grey haired mature Head Waiter who 'worked' last night... Pick up your game mate or get out of hospitality if your long past it, 'cos you aren't doing yourself or anyone else...
