Tugun Tavern — Restaurant in Gold Coast City

Went on the 25/09/15 for a Friday night $12.95 Steak night and It was awful. The chips and salad were OK but really how do you mess that up but the steak My God I know it is cheap but this steak was so burnt and SOOOO FATTYYYY. I asked for medium and its as medium on the inside but was so char grilled it was black and I mean black and not once was I able to saw off a piece and eat it without pulling out of my mouth FAT. The steak was meant to of weighed 250g but honestly It must of been 200g of fat. Now the chef must of seen this and still served it up to me with a smile. That in my books is good enough to never go back there and tell anyone interested not to bother. We have been there heaps before but this experience has wrecked it for us. Now I have never written a review before and wouldnt normally even say anything to the staff. Just force it down as we cant afford to go out much and never return but I was so disappointed with the meal I actually took my plate back myself with the 200g of fat still on my plate and told the manager how bad the meal was . He smiled and said sarcastically" Really "'. Crap food...

Worst dining experience ever! The lady that sat us was lovely and every single thing after that was shocking. The food was so poorly cooked. We watched it sit under the heat lamp for 10 minutes until my partner eventually just got up and grabbed it from the kitchen himself - we were the only two people in the restaurant.. by then the food was cold. Not that it would have made much difference to the meal because it was so horribly cooked. I have never in my life eaten a steak cooked so badly, I had ordered a rare steak and it had been cooked more than well done. The vegetables were boiled to mush without seasoning and the mash potato was doughy. My partner ordered the carbonara with pasta clumped together with bits of cooked egg white throughout. We decided to go here for lunch after it was recommended to us by our son. I joined the legends and got a discount on all our purchases. The lunch time menu is fixed price @ $16.95 for non members and $14.95 for members. For that I got a 200gm steak with salad and chips with my choice of pepper sauce. The steak was beautifully cooked to medium, and the chips were crunchy. The quantities were just right and we left feeling well fed without feeling overfull. The drinks were really well priced. And the staff were friendly and courteous. It's a pub atmosphere so don't expect expect to overlook the beach etc. Although the decor is beachy and there is outside seating also. All in all a very pleasant meal which exceeded our expectations. We will definitely be back.
