We are new to Ballarat and tried this place first. Amazed at the setting and staff and depth and flavour of the dishes we found our regular Indian restaurant . We went back three times and it was perfect the same time after time. To be fair to this review we tried the other Indian restaurant on Sturt street. Let's just say that we won't be going back to Sturt st. Ever. The curry was water And had no depth. I actually make better packet curry at home. but no where near as good as Ballarat Indian. omg!!! The depth of flavour of the butter chicken is by far the best I've had and I get butter chicken all the time. The chicken is tandoori first and then added to the sweet flavour packed exotic sauce. Complete with fresh herbs which just adds that punch of fresh tantalising flavour. The chicken is sweet and juicy succulent morsels packed full of tandoori flavour . The lemon rice is a meal on its own . It is cooked to perfection. Not watery . Just perfect . Hubby gets a different curry every time we go and he just goes on and on about how good it was on the drive home. The lamb rogan josh is stunning. The lamb is juicy and succulent. Never had a dry piece of meat out of the 3 times we have been there and all on different nights. The depth of flavour in the curry's topped of with fresh herbs has just deserved this place my outright gratitude and thanks for providing stunning authentic Indian Took our parents there for my birthday and they are now regulars of the Ballarat Indian restaurant . They have never had Indian food of this calibre before . They thought it would be a one off but they said it has been the same every...

Our booking was for 7, we arrived 7:02, were seated, menus and papadums delivered, the the wait commenced.... 7:30 before anyone came to our table to take an order... even for drinks, noone came.

So 7:30 we ordered drinks, there was 5 of us in our party, wife and the two kids got their drinks, myself and the youngest waited.... and waited.... and waited.... when we managed to get hold of old mate I asked where our drinks were. He forgot! 7:50 he came back with mine, but no apple juice for the 3 year old. I asked if he had orange instead, he said he would check, food came out around 8:10 ish wasn't until all food had arrived he said there was no orange juice either... ok, she sufficed with water....

Food was tasty and reasonably priced, no complaints there, fairly standard Indian food for Australia.

Was excited to see Faluda on the menu.... ordered it, didn't have any, was told it was popular.... so if it's popular wouldn't you make sure you have stock for a busy long weekend? Settled for a Gulab Jamun for desert, very average, hard not the best. One may suggest a can and microwave was involved.

So in summary; Food, good Price, good Atmosphere, good Service, not great. Especially when I saw the bottle of Orange juice on the bar whilst paying that I was told they didn't have ;)

I have a huge background in the industry, and won't slagg off a restaurant, my feedback is always constructive. A few little tweaks and this place...

This was the worst Indian food I’ve ever tasted. The service was very slow, there were many tables the remains of people’s meals on them, we ordered and the entree was Chicken Marsala. It was flavorless and very dry. I had the Lamb Saag for main and it was so salty it was inedible (maybe it was because we were asked how our entree was and I said politely that it was a bit dry). My partner’s meal was Beef Rogan Josh and the sauce was watery (as was mine) and it did not have a tomato base to the sauce. Even the saffron rice tasted funny. The only thing that was ok was the naan bread. I had a lemon, lime and bitters that I swear was 99% lemonade. The server noticed that our meals were virtually untouched and asked if everything was ok? And I explained, very politely that it was not and why. He disappeared and we were kept waiting for another ten minutes and a lady comes out and says that the chef had tasted everything and that it was fine. She actually argued with us. She gave us 20% off our bill. Big whoop. We had hardly even touched the food. Poor service, extremely poor food, poor everything except for the ample parking. We will not be back and I hope you don’t have the misfortune to go there either. I don’t ever leave bad reviews, but this was beyond a...

This Indian restaurant was one of the best I’ve ever been to and it was better than I expected. It was fairly empty with only two families inside when my family and I entered at around 6:30pm and was still quite empty when we finished. We ordered the tandoori chicken, which was awesome, the garlic naan, which was crispy flavourful, with strong hints of garlic, daal, butter chicken, gobi, a potato and cauliflower dish, and two rices, saffron and basmati. The daal was insanely tasty and the beans were huge. The butter chicken had a mild spice and mild taste of butter when the sauce was eaten by it self. The Gobi was really good and the texture abit hard but it just made it even better. The tandoori chicken was sizzling very well when served and it was very tender and had a nice charcoal taste. We paid a total of around 80 bucks for the 4 of us which was quite worth it, considering the quality of the food. Overall would highly recommend this quiet and enjoyable place for you and your family! Staff was also very friendly and checked up on us to see if everything was alright. Do come here if you’re near ballarat!

We received our Naan which was served in a cane basket that had seen better days, on closer inspection we found a large patch of green mould on the side and what looked to be specks of black mould spotted thought the cane basket. we asked to get a fresh serve and for it to be served on a plate or something that was clean. They bought back the same Naan that had been tipped out of the old basket into a new basket. We knew this had happened as we had already broken some pieces of naan off when we received the first serve. On closer inspection of the new basket of naan we again found specks of black mould thought the basket. very disappointed at the lack of care taken with cleanliness. this could cause serious illness for anyone and should be seriously thought about and fixed promptly! Cane is a natural material and holds moisture therefore after sitting for long periods after being washed and left damp.. mould will grow!!! this is unacceptable and people need to know and be aware of this before someone falls ill. Food safe Victoria has been informed.

Have driven past this place a thousand times and finally got to try it. Parked out the front with no lighting, so stepped in thick mud :( Then took the only table for 2 behind a pillar. (One other couple already seated) We chose the ‘special’ for 2 people. It was affordable at approx $66 But we wanted a beer each instead of coke and fancy bread instead of plain naan. This added $22 to our meal. Which I think was fair. But the quality of the food was quite poor. The samosa was very dry. The tandoori chicken was over cooked and chewy. The lamb in the Rogan Josh was dry too… but still a little pink. The butter chicken had spice, but wasn’t creamy like I’m used to. The rice was bland and so dry it was almost crunchy! The bread that we paid extra for, tasted like plain naan…. No evidence of fruit (cashmiri) or garlic at all. Service was excellent and the beer (Kingfisher) was delicious!!
