Music in dining room dropping the 'F' word was not very good. Particularly sitting there with young children. Decor is a bit dated and tacky but the food was worth it. Menu isn't easy to read and it is unclear what some things are without asking, unless you're a regular customer or have an Indian background. No staff were present in dining area for long periods which made it difficult to ask questions. Table water provided. We said the two little kids would share a mango lassi but no extra straw or glass was offered. The Godfather Indian beer is delicious and malty but not on the menu. Make sure you ask for it if you like trying different beers. The salted plain lassi tastes like sour cream or an eggy salty milk. The mango lassi was delicious and like most mango lassi we've had. We ordered drinks and they took a while to come out. We were asked halfway through our meal if I wanted the chai now or after so I said after. I would've liked it in the hour or so that we sat before eating though. The food was very good. The fish curry and the vegetable kofta were great for those who can tolerate a little spice, and the korma was a hit all round - with the kids too. The rice's were brought out minutes after all the dishes and naans and we would've liked to have them so we could start our meal straight away. After dinner, we waited a few minutes and asked for the chai and it was another 10 minutes we waited to get it. It was so delicious though. We were keen for dessert but had to get our young kids to bed so decided not to worry about it, based on the wait time of drinks and dinner. We were there two hours, arriving at 6pm. There were four other people dining in but roughly half a dozen takeaway meal pickups so I'm sure the kitchen was working hard, as was the waitress. I believe that having another waitress would improve the customer service greatly and increase the likelihood of people ordering dessert, and of people coming back a...
Read moreOrdered takeaway online, arrived at the restaurant at time stated by text message. Turns out they hadn't even started making the meal. And we didn't realise that they only started making it 30 mins after we were waiting. 10 mins after I asked for an update and that I'd like to cancel my order as it was taking far too long, it was handed to me. 55 mins after I placed my order. Now I don't have an issue with a meal taking an hour - but I was told it would be 15 mins. The entire operation was disorganised, no one would give me an update. The only update we got was told us (5 mins after we arrived) there was a 20 min delay in them getting the order, which I know not to be the case - because the text message is only sent when they accept the order.
They apologised at the end and tried to give me a free 1.25L bottle of Coke to make up for it, which we refused. And to throw insult to injury, they completely forgot to give me my $8 entrée - which I didn't realise until I got home.
I'm a huge fan of Indian food, so have plenty of meals to compare to this - and the meal was ok, but not the typical Indian flavours I've grown to love. Meat quality was top notch though, but butter chicken had no tandoori flavouring (was yellow and not orange as it normally is), and beef vindaloo was full of salt and not spicy despite ordering it hot. If it wasn't for the complete and utter mess up with our online order I might of given the meal a 3 out of 5, but they loose stars for blaming technology and making us wait 35 mins at the restaurant after our meal was due to be ready. Such a shame as well given it's one of our closest Indian...
Read moreI have been a regular customer at Masala Valley Indian for take away and have been consistently impressed with the quality of food and service. The restaurant offers a wide variety of dishes, both vegetarian and non-vegetarian, and each time we order, we like to try something new. The menu is extensive and the staff is always willing to make recommendations. The food is always fresh, flavorful and well-presented, and the service is quick and friendly. The restaurant offers great value for money and we have never been disappointed.
One of the things that sets Masala Valley Indian apart from other Indian restaurants is the authenticity of the dishes. The flavors are spot-on and the use of traditional spices and cooking methods is evident in every dish. The curries are rich and hearty, the tandoori dishes are cooked to perfection and the biryani is one of the best we've had. The restaurant offers a good range of vegetarian and non-vegetarian options that cater to different dietary requirements.
As a regular customer, we have tried other Indian restaurants in the area, but we always end up disappointed and end up coming back to Masala Valley Indian. The food and service are consistently excellent, and it has quickly become our go-to Indian restaurant in Ballarat. I would highly recommend Masala Valley Indian to anyone looking for a delicious and authentic Indian meal. It's definitely...
