Bao Bao Chinese & Malaysian Restaurant — Restaurant in Goondiwindi

I would like to share the experience of my first meal in Queensland as a first time traveler in the sunshine state, decided to visit boa boa hoping for a good Chinese meal, but unfortunately my experience was very disappointing from start to finish.

The first red flag came as soon as we sat down. From underneath the lazy Susan on our table, a cockroach scurried out. Needless to say, that didn’t set a very appetizing tone for the meal.

When the food began to arrive, things didn’t improve. The steamed dim sims were served fridge-cold in the middle, as though they had been reheated poorly—or not at all. Hoping the next dish would redeem the evening, I tried the honey chicken, only to find a 20cm long black hair mixed in with my meal

After the hair my appetite was completely gone so I decided to share my thoughts with the staff, unfortunately this upset the boss as he was drinking beers in the kitchen as I approached

We went to Bao Bao on a recent trip through the town. Great little restaurant with friendly staff and a good vibe from the decor. Unfortunately, the food was a bit hit and miss. We should have asked a few more questions before ordering, so it wasn't the restaurant's fault that we didn't enjoy our meal as much as we should have. The Thai Spring Rolls are like a heavy Chiko Roll; The Dim Sims were good; The Roti in the Roti Chanai was very oily; the San Choy Bau (spelt 'Sang Chou Pau' on the menu) was okay, but not what you'd expect; the 5 Spice Salt Squid was good, but too salty for my wife. All-in-all, the best way to describe the meal is 'different' to what you expect. If we were to go again, we would ask more questions about how things are cooked and also stick with more...

Dined in, we are a family just staying one night in the town. Restaurant is very pretty. Large menu with many options. I asked a few questions about different dishes and the waitress was able to answer them all. Food delivered very quickly and portion sizes very big. We had to take a lot with us (always a good thing, means another meal the next night!). Thought the food was very yummy and could not believe the value. Paid the bill, got to the car and went back to check they hadn't undercharged us. Asked them to add up the bill again, but it was correct. Highly recommend. Staff very friendly.
