For a remote regional based Chinese Restaurant, the New Dynasty was quite good. And I can relate to what they're trying to achieve in an outback Australian regional centre. I asked them if we could have something that the chef would cook for people who were used to eating various Chinese cuisine all over the world, but they kept wanting to point us to what was popular for the local patrons. I didn't really want the 'Australianised Chinese' menu, but found it hard to make them understand. We settled on the heavily promoted 'crispy skin duck', which although having a lovely subtle 5-spice marinade flavour, ended up being a bit too crispy, and was unfortunately overcooked. It would have been lovely if a little less dried out. We also had their special Mongolian sauce with lamb in a sizzling plate. It was a tasty Mongolian sauce, if a tad on the heavy handed side of the salty/sweet balance. When I asked for vegetables, we finally understood each other, as I mentioned Asian greens, & the waitress was concerned that this was what the chef served up for the staff. Having reassured her that we wanted to be eating what they, the Chinese staff, would be eating, we finally got it right and had a lovely plate of wok tossed Chinese spinach with garlic. My only suggestion for the management is to perhaps have a separate small menu (in English) of what they would cook for their Chinese or Malay friends, that they can offer to the more culinary adventurous Anglo-saxon travellers who pass...
Read moreVery nice experience. I ordered cashew chicken and a special fried rice. The ladies at the front were very happy and friendly took my order properly and told me how long it would be. Within that 15 minutes the food was served piping hot and ready for my Take Away. Both were delicious with vegetables crispy and fresh - the rice, (which I usually grade restaurants by) was definitely in the middle stars. Not a lot of large pieces of anything in particular included except some shaved dried pork in the rice. Definitely no large prawn, omelette, shallots. Of course, unfortunately really low quality seed oil at best are used as is normal. I knew these things going in and if you’re OK with that, Phil relaxed to indulge. Would definitely return again and can recommend for both sit in as it looked clean and definitely good for take away. Forgot to ask about MSG. But definitely added MSG. Of course, tantalizing and addictive but be aware. Food stores well overnight in the fridge and leftovers are delicious when heated in the microwave because the rice hasn’t been overcooked. Nor have the vegetables. Hope...
Read moreThe staff were exceptional. I apologise to the restaurant but I cannot recommend the food. I cook a lot of Asian food at home. The special fried rice had a strange metallic taste which may come from the wok? The San Choy Bo wasn’t the usual pork mince - and it also contained zucchini and corn and small lumps of different types of meat (I usually order as it is the leanest - couldn't eat this due to random pieces of meat fat). I make mine with vermicelli noodles cut up, mince pork nicely browned, spring onions, sauce and crushed peanuts. Szechuan chicken - for some reason didn’t get that delicious numb feeling from the peppercorns. I make this at home too and I know that the sauce does get enriched during cooking but the other half thought it tasted burnt? The Tom Yum was obviously different to the traditional Thai version, was lovely. Sorry I cannot give a higher score - the staff were absolutely wonderful. Sadly we left most of our food. Sometimes it can also depend on the cook on the night so please don’t judge this restaurant based on a single review, it has really...
