The ASTOR Bistro — Restaurant in Goulburn

It becomes a bit tiring when you have to keep repeating yourself...and sadly, The Astor is yet another example of my least favorite rant. A Menu that reads well yet fails to deliver! A group of us descended upon The Astor for a Saturday lunch. Grabbing a cold beer we chatted over the supplied menus. The girls settled for a delicious sounding Roasted Cauliflower salad with the boys ordering Prosciutto Pizza and Chicken Snitties. What struck me was the lack of Prosciutto, given a pizza is divided into eight pieces. Three curled bits of Prosciutto sat on top looking somewhat bewildered as to their purpose. I was left to rip them into little bits and distribute them onto the slices. Although tasty the pizza could have been cooked a little longer as it had a doughy texture. The boys didn't mind their Snitties...but it was the Roasted Cauliflower Salads that copped the ire of the girls. Sneakily, the large bowls had been filled with a mixture of lettuces...no other salad components such as cucumber or tomato...and a couple of spoonfuls of the Cauliflower had been sprinkled over the top, hiding the garden bed beneath. Now, it wasn't a cheap salad, not at all, and the kitchen wasn't too interested in discussing our concerns. Needless to say we will reconsider our options when dining out next...

If you’re in the mood for a game of "Where’s My Food?" then The Astor in Goulburn is the place for you! The steak I actually received was fantastic—juicy and perfectly cooked, so at least they can get that right. And the lemon, lime, and bitters? Spot on! A real triumph in mixology.

But the real entertainment of the evening was watching the staff try to locate my friend’s steak. It’s like they were playing hide-and-seek with the kitchen. When we finally asked about it, the staff’s response was a masterclass in how not to handle customer service. They acted like it was a mystery even Sherlock Holmes couldn’t solve. When it finally arrived, it looked like it had taken a detour through Dante's Inferno for a well-done char, rather than the medium kiss of flame that was ordered.

So, if you’re into great steaks but love even more the thrill of wondering if your friend’s meal will ever appear — this...

I was visiting Goulburn recently for my birthday & I am also part of the LGBTI community. So I was super impressed that even a regional town like Goulburn could have a venue that welcomes everyone…plus drag bingo on a Wednesday nite. Folks, Ella & Roxy made the whole hotel feel like a family, giggles, laugher & down right rolling on the floor in stitches! Well done to the Astor for taking the risk to support the wider community & double fist(ing)pumps to the girls for making it a truly fun & memorable nite out, I hope u bring the bingo tour to Sydney some time!
