As frequent pub-goers who appreciate a good meal and pubs in small towns, we were keen to visit the Dayboro Hotel as our next weekend venture. Dayboro itself is a charming town in a beautiful location, but unfortunately, the pub does little to complement its surroundings or enhance the local experience.
The menu was limited and uninspired, with prices that suggested a much higher standard than what was delivered. The steak sandwich was particularly disappointing—not only was the bread soggy due to the salad, but to add insult to injury, the salad was an additional cost to the meal, despite no mention of this on the menu. The gravy on another meal had congealed before it even reached the table. An eye fillet, ordered medium rare, arrived well-done—not once, but twice. Additionally, some mains arrived a full ten minutes after the rest of the table had been served, despite an already lengthy 40-minute wait. The sandwich featured gnarly freezer or microwave burn on the bread - unacceptable. Meals were cold and disappointing.
The venue itself lacks character and is in desperate need of maintenance and investment. While the staff were friendly and competent, the overall experience was let down by poor food quality, disjointed service, and pricing that far exceeds the value provided. Even the beer prices felt excessive, making it difficult to justify a return visit.
For a town as vibrant as Dayboro, its pub should be a focal point of hospitality and community. As it stands, it misses the mark entirely. Until significant improvements are made, it’s difficult...
Read moreI can see why it has taken 7 years for us to visit this establishment and we live in Dayboro. The actual restaurant had only 2 tables set up inside and the rest seem to be out the front deck. We were seated on a table that was dirty, no tablecloth and was out in the wind. We ended up moving it under the awning for more comfort as it was cold and the heater wasnt working. There was virtually no choice in wine, just 1 brand to choose from that I do not particularly like. So had to purchase a bottle from the drive through which we were then charged corkage for. Food took 45 minutes to arrive. I noticed others who had arrived after us all had meals before us. I ordered beef and burgundy pie which actually tasted quite nice but was pretty much cold. Hubby ordered a chicken schnitzel which was extremely overcooked and a solid slab hard to eat. Others at the table got their meals 15 mins after ours arrived and then the final meal another 5 mins later. A visit to the toilet took 20 mins as there was only 1 and it had three people before me. The toilet itself was pretty scary with the toilet seat as old as the hills, dirty, scratchy and the toilet itself is far from clean. This place needs a huge makeover, its a gold mine waiting to be discovered. There is nothing quaint about it, its just old and dilapidated. I can see why locals don't rate it as place worth visiting. It will be at least another 7 years before think about...
Read moreI can't give any stars as the food was uneatable and the service was appalling. Everyone in my group was very disappointed. We arrived early to give staff a chance to get our order right. Unfortunately that didn't help my meal was uneatable and so was my husbands. I ordered reef and beef medium rare and my husbands was medium T bone. Both our stakes were burned on one side and just warmed on the other . It was not even enough to colour the meat. We arrived 11.45 and placed our order , we got our meal at nearly 1pm. We gave our meat to a friends dog as it was uneatable. Some of our friends still had not received their meal at 1.20. The orders were constantly mixed up or just wrong. We had pre booked so they had our numbers and there was not a lot of other customers as it was a Monday lunchtime. It was a real disappointment as we had great memories of past times at Dayboro. My advice...
