The Sugar Mill is one in a Mill-ion!
The Mrs and I drove out to Dayboro today to get away from the Brisbane buzz. We explored the village of Dayboro a little, and finally anchored (pooch on a leash) at a local JEWEL – The Sugar Mill. What a lovely experience!
We were served by friendly engaging staff (who knows all about that delicate balance between being present without parking themselves at your table. Even the young lad running the food from upstairs were invested in us as customers and had great interaction for just the right amount of time to make a great impression. Management can be proud of these young folk…when we move into Aged Care, these are they type of people I would want around… 😊😉), on the outside deck where carefully selected artistic, rustic décor underpins the relaxed outdoor restaurant vibe…we loved it.
As for the food…it should be enough of a testimony that we drove all the way from Brisbane to have the BBQ Loaded fries and Crispy Chicken - and weren’t they crisped to perfection. Great presentation and super tasty. A HUGE compliment to the chef! This was indeed worth the trip and EXACTLY as described! You did well, Mate!
We’ll be back…for sure. Next time, we’re bringing the crowd… Keep on Milling! You’re all doing great!! (PS. Toby said thanks for providing the water bowl).

Read moreThis was our second visit to the Mill. Whilst the meals are very nice the service was extremely poor. Took 1 1/2 hrs for our meals to come out because as they said “we’re busy” there was a large table celebrating but nothing out of the box. We were one of three tables obviously not happy with the wait as they also waited 1 1/2 hrs. What was more disappointing no bothered to update us. Would have been different if the wait staff had come to us and said we apologise meals will be another 45 mins can we offer a complimentary drink as you would expect anywhere else. Some of the staff were dragging there heals and so slow. One in particular could hardly keep the burger in its box she was carrying it so poorly the bun almost fell off. The young blonde staff member obviously didn’t want to be there and have me a foul look when leaving??? All because we kept asking were our meals were. So disappointed as were local and love supporting Dayboro businesses, unfortunately we won’t be back and have already shared our experience with three other locals. Other businesses have struggled in this location and with the extremely poor service I can’t see the Mill staying in business long term as well. Much better at the Drop...
Read moreJust WOW! This restaurant is brand new to our little town, but what a punch it's packing. We went on a Wednesday evening and although it was the middle of the week, it was packed!! There was a substantial wait for food (but it was worth every minute we waited) and the staff kept us informed of expected wait time. All of the staff were just so lovely, smiley and friendly, and although they were pushed to the limit with a full house, they didn't appear fazed and they didn't get snappy. They cheerfully showed us to an extra table they'd set up in the walkway to the back street, away from the crowds and therefore much quieter. Corn ribs are an absolute MUST, but the two burgers we ordered were perfect. A decent, generous, home made patty on a super-fresh bun. We'll definitely be back and would recommend to anyone visiting Dayboro. Wishing the staff and management all the very best for their continued success, and welcome...
