Went in on a Friday at 10 am with a large group of my friends.

The menu's are broken up into three categories - Breakfast (8 am? - 11 am), All Day, and Lunch/Dinner (from memory - I was only focused on the Breakfast menu).

Whilst I was content with ordering from the breakfast menu, the majority of my friends were interested in food from the All Day menu, and as there was no time specified on the All Day menu, logically as a customer we should assume that the All Day menu, is in fact available All Day. However, this was not the case. This made the selection more difficult for my friends, and presented a bad customer experience as they all had to re-pick their menus. On this note, to the owner I suggest either a) changing the name from "All Day" to something else on the menu, or b) specifying that All Day is in fact from 11 am onward on the menu.

I was also dissatisfied with the service, as the girl working the counter clearly didn't have an ounce of customer service training, or just simply didn't want to work there. It made ordering uncomfortable, and would prefer to go somewhere else if that's how she thinks customer's should be treated. To give specifics (if the owner is interested), the girl was quite tan, had a nose ring and was probably around 5 foot, 5 inches. The other waitress (serving our coffees) was very polite.

The food was not an issue - it was a bit pricey however not too bad compared to other prices on the island. I did enjoy my meal, and so did all of my friends. The water bottles they served us with however did have a moldy residue inside of them, so I advise the store/owner to inspect those immediately (could cause complications in future, fortunately my friends were not too picky).

On a whole, I rate the restaurant as per below:

Food - 7 Service - 3 (would rate lower if not for the polite waitress that occasionally served us) Price - 6

Thanks and hopefully this constructive...

This was a disappointing experience. What affected my experience cannot be attributed to the busy period of the Xmas holidays because we waited over 30min which was completely understandable. But when the food arrived, it all went downhill.

The chips, the fish, everything was dry and unseasoned. The prices this establishment is charging for this quality of food is the height of arrogance. Restaurant prices for fish n chips that would’ve been equal or better in quality from a cheap shop and charge half as much.

You’re not fooling anyone serving that dirty dish water you call gravy. It was brown water with zero flavour. Add more packet if you’re just going to keep topping it up with water to get by.

First round of food my fish was raw in the middle. Cold to the touch in fact. The lady who served me was kind and rectified it by making me a new one fresh.

The new fresh fish was cooked, but it had hairs inside of the batter and at that point I was ready to commit war crimes. I was hungry when I arrived, ate nothing, and left with no appetite. The nice server did agree to a refund.

Had a nice chicken wrap for a reasonable price right next door.

To the new owners, know that the limit of choice customers have is not a license to squeeze every dollar out of this business. You won’t last until you wake up and stop pulling the wool over your customers eyes. Don’t be surprised when this spot comes up for lease in the near future.

Do not recommend...

On a beautiful spring day… faithful hounds in row, bottle of wine in the bag with plans to get some freshly cooked local seafood and piping hot crispy chips dusted with sea salt we entered the well attended fish &chip shop delightfully located opposite the stunning views of Point Lookout. The price for my fish and chip pack looked a little steep at $25 and my 4 pieces of calamari at $2 ea was a tad surprising, but I consoled myself that I was about to receive a generous portion of the local pescatorian delight’s freshly snatched from the sea and prepared by local folk with deep connection to the island.

The reality was somewhat disappointing 😞. For our $33 we received what I can only assume was a piece of undersized juvenile whiting in an oily crumb, who’s life should of been spared, 4 x pre packaged perfectly symmetrical and tasteless calamari rings, and some cold, limp insipid rectangles of potato.

I strongly suspect that everything came out of a birdseye packet and came from three different parts of the globe equally far from Straddie.

Even though we did not enjoy our meal, it didn’t go to waste …. the dogs got a treat and consumed most of the $33.

Thank god for the Prawn 🦐 Shack around the corner 😁. Our Sunday was saved from...

Before you go here - hear me out. I'm editing this review because there's an absolute gem down at Amity point - it's a small drive but closer to Dunwich. (Amity Point Community Club) Less expensive, large variety of food, special menu. Dinner starts at 5.30 which is when I visited, I wrote a review on their grilled fish. Anyway - Fishes at the point... We visited Fishes at the point after seeing photos which resembled decent fish and chips - there was even what looked like a grilled option! Once the food was ready, I picked up an uncovered cardboard box full of burnt reject-chips, a frozen piece of fish and a $2 calamari ring (also frozen). It was so packed with inedible potato, the calamari ring kept slipping off - onto the scratched-up, stainless steel bench-top. I've had infinitley better fish and chips at Kenmore (Mainland). Buy at your own peril! Good luck.

We ordered dinner which cost $37.50 for two. I saw that it cost $18 for a piece of snapper and chips and thought it must be good and filling for that price. I asked the waitress whay type of snapper it was and she said " Its snapper", the staff are rude and unfriendly. The piece of fish was as small as my wifes hand (she's got small hands) and the small amount of chips under it were badly cooked, soggy and tasted terrible. The fish wasn't just small it had very little flavour. My wife ordered salt n pepper squid and it cost $12 for 6 small pieces, they were average at best. She also ordered two crumbed prawns which were very small prawns and a pineapple fritter which was also very small and tasted below average. The meal was nothing short of terrible. Would never go back under this management.

As for fish and chips, these guys have all the bases covered and the food is good (we ordered the family pack for 4 people at $100 - have a look at the pix). Generous serving of lemon wedges and tartar sauce and overall quality was positive. Seating location is not bad and you can also takeaway and enjoy your food with stunning clif-side view of the beach... Staff were friendly and I asked multiple times for a few extra things like sauces and plates to share food and responses were ok at peak businesses and there were no nonsense extra charges for ketchup or anything. Cutlery was wood so no plastic and things were MOSTLY served in paper/cardboard which was great. It would have been great if they had a recycling bin for all the paper (and the plastics) but they did have one for glass and cans.
