Ambience | 5 ⭐
The Blue Room Cafe, as it's name implies, features calming tones of blue and white to accentuate the ocean aesthetic. With whales aplenty in decor, it's easy to take a glance out over the horizon to spot some whales. The cafe was our first stop once arriving at Straddie, and we saw whales immediately out in the sea, blowing and breaching. That will make this place a fond memory to treasure. While we were there, a local was celebrating his birthday and the staff came and sang for him. It really highlighted how tight knit the Straddie community is, and it felt welcoming. Great atmosphere.
Food | 5 ⭐
We ordered 2 classics and one Dutch pancake. We also ordered some juice, a coffee and a few extras on the side. Everything was cooked well and we especially enjoyed the pancake. We noticed that this cafe has a very small, concise menu that allows them to focus on creating dishes well. Whilst the classics were nothing extraordinary, they were cooked superbly and they were enjoyable.
Service | 5⭐
Our server took our order smoothly and our food was brought out quickly and without a fuss. As previously mentioned, the staff obviously are happy and genuinely lovely to be around. The community is tight, but we felt welcomed and part of the vibe.
Price | 4 ⭐
We understand that because of the location some markups are necessary. Our food and drinks came close to $70 for 3 people. For the food we received, we thought some of the extras (such as haloumi cheese on the side and mushrooms) going for $4 per side was a little steep. $14 for one pancake and a few slices of bacon also seemed a little pricey.
Overall, The Blue Room Cafe gives a taste of the idyllic lifestyle on Stradbroke for tourists and locals alike. The staff are friendly and the food is nice. We would love to return on our next visit from the mainland.

Read moreWarm friendly staff and cozy place and my wife had a good chai latte but that’s where it stopped for us on this visit .Very poor coffee - supposed to be double shot- it was a weak milky coffee with no aroma or strength. Had bacon and egg roll as advertised on the menu and was picturing a fresh bread roll with fried egg and bacon , cooked when ordered- disappointing - got a pre made and cooked , hot grill pressed excuse for what should have been a very simple delight. We also ordered an almond croissant which looked FAB and when they asked if we would like it warm - we expected it to be warmed through the oven for a few secs , so it will remain a little crispy but all we got was a soggy microwaved limp croissant, with the almond cream all runny. Not pleasant to eat at all . We looked out for this cafe because it had good reviews but perhaps they...
Read more*PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT * at the time of writing this review this cafe closes at 12pm each day and only have prepared food items available (a little savoury but mostly sweets) - DO NOT rely on the Google business hours / menu or pics - the Cafe advises they are months old and despite trying they can not get Google to update the info (apparently they are locked out of their account). My attitude is that where there is a will there is always a way - but maybe that's just me. I would have given 5stars bar for the above (however while it's not technically their fault i can only review on my actual experience) The limited food we had was delicious / the Matcha and Turmeric lattes were amazing and the cafe/location is perfection - the staff were really lovely as well. If you can get there early enough i still...
