Disappointing dinner yesterday (Saturday second seating at 8:30pm).
The quality of the dry aged o.p rib was not up to standard. We have eaten this exact cut every time we have dined at Bull and Bell. Manier times when the head chef was still Anthony Fulton, and 4 times this month (December) under the new head chef. Besides the steak being three quarters of just inedible fat and also quite a fair amount of inedible ligament pieces, the steak did not taste dry aged. Changing your meat supplier was a kamikaze decision from your end.
The rosemary chips/fries, just an insult to be served store bought frozen fries. If the portion size of the fried polenta was reduced, you wouldn't need to cut costs by supplementing the fries for freezer ones....and if at the very least you simply had to make such a decision, one expects that the fries/chips are at the very least double, if not triple fried as fries should be served, and not the anemic fries we were served last night, that we did not eat.
Suggestions: • Bring back the baked gnocchi with smoked scamorza (side dish) • Reduce the size of the fried polenta • Source the meat of the dry aged o.p rib from your original supplier
Such a disappointing experience overall. We felt ripped off paying for this meal, albeit our 4 drinks were removed off our $200+ bill.
We hope that we have been constructive enough for the changes to be effected...
Read moreI was absolutely disgusted with the service at Bull & Bell. I made a booking for my family and of course some of them have young children. Making this clear in my booking I was never told that children weren’t allowed or weren’t welcomed. Once getting there we were told that one of the prams were in the way and that we had to move it which meant that one of the children had no where to sit. They had no high chairs for infants so we were offered a cushion to have the baby sit on. We then had a chef remove himself from the kitchen and approach our table to tell us to “control your child”. We had a rude table next to us who told our children to shut up and swore and carried on around them but nothing was done! Not to mention we had spent over $700 in the restaurant that night!! To make things even worse I get a phone call that night around 10:00pm after we had left telling me that they forgot to add some items onto the bill and we would need to come in and pay the remaining bill. I’m sorry but if your staff make a mistake and forget to do something that’s on you. How unprofessional to ask me to come in and pay when it’s your restaurants mistake for not adding up the totals properly. I will never go back to this restaurant again and I would not recommend it to anyone!...
Read moreOn our last visit, we noted the staff spending most of their time talking to the people in the private dining room, who we later discovered were employees of the hotel. This poor attention to the rest of the customers meant that table water and menu distribution didn't happen until we asked.
The meals were fine except for the fact that the items we received were not what we ordered. I was surprised that my steak was so small but relieved to find I was only charged for a petite (again, not what was ordered).
Finally, we get to the dessert. When booking, I asked for a dessert to be brought out with chocolate "happy birthday" on a plate. This was accepted. Before being seated, I checked in and reminded the staff of the dessert, to which they said it was written in the booking and it was all good. After waiting forever after clearing tables, we were asked if we wanted the bill to which I mentioned the special dessert. "What dessert?" So we paid our bill and left rather unhappy.
Really sad to say goodbye to my favourite restaurant, but at some point you need to speak with...
