Katherine Club Inc — Restaurant in Katherine

My partner and I were passing through Katherine and decided to go somewhere decent for dinner. Based on the reviews, I thought this might be the ticket. Boy was I wrong. I will preface the following with the fact that I left a written complaint to be given to the manager (not there as it was a Saturday), with all my contact details - I received no contact/ follow up. I ordered the chicken parmigiana, he ordered the pork ribs. The parmigiana was average at best - the underside had gone soggy, and the cheese topping was excessively thick and only just melted. I was hungry, it was $24, and it was a large portion so I would say it was edible but not enjoyable. A 2/5. The salad bar didn't help improve matters with the bread being quite stale, and most veg beyond overcooked, with the corn proving the exception to the rule (it was very nice). Added to that, you have to wait till your main arrives before you can get anything as they don't provide salad bar plates. My partners ribs, $28, were almost inedible. They had been thoroughly overcooked, and thus were incredibly dry, to the point that the jerky we had eaten earlier in the day was more tender. He ate as much as he could, and got about 1/3 of the way through before he gave up - I have NEVER seen him not finish a meal, so I knew it had to be really bad - I tried a bit and needed to have a drink of water (charged) to help chew it. I told the staff and the meal was taken back to the chef, who said that as my partner had eaten over half (he most definitely hadn't, and here I wish I'd taken a photo before it was sent back) and wouldn't do anything about it. We left, my partner hungry, and me feeling as though my complaint to management might be taken seriously. Obviously it was not. Overall a most disappointing experience from both the food and the chef/ management. FYI - I don't give 1 star unless the place has been informed well before I write a review that I was not happy and they have been given an opportunity to rectify...

WARNING.. I wasn't going to write a review because I feel it's unfair to the business and letting them know the feedback via a phone call is much more beneficial however when I made that phone call I discovered this venue does not care about its patrons. The bar staff member was rude and the food was bad. The crocodile could have been any type of meat, it just tasted like the coating, the spaghetti bog was unpleasant, my daughter couldn't eat it and the chicken schnitzel was stringy and inedible. Unfortunately I was very hungry so I did attempt to eat the schnitzel resulting in possible food poisoning. I'll spare you those details but let's just say our toiletless caravan is not adequate to my requirements.

I phoned the venue to let them know of my situation and politely suggest they check the dates on the chicken schnitzels. I was met with a receptionist who told me the manager could not speak to me because she was busy doing the pays. I was given no apology or a chance to explain what I had eaten. I was told to go to the doctor to get it confirmed. Apparently doing the pays is more important then the health and safety of their patrons. At least they look after their employees. Not the way we wanted to spend our time in Katherine. I hope this is a lesson to the manager, all it takes is a polite...

I'm giving this venue a 2 star for a few reasons. First, the mash potato or sweet potato mash is like glue!? Ive been there 8 times now and its the same every time. Second the salads or vege are very basic with just few pieces. Not happy. Chips/salad and vege/mash is the base of nearly all the meals and they can't get it right!

I've had the shanks twice and both times they were incredibly bland. The only good meal (and it was genuinely delicious!) that I've had is the prawn and fish curry. So if you have to go there, I would recommend that meal.

I think the meals are very expensive for what they are. I've been to other places in the NT in very small towns and gotten 400g T-Bones that were to die for, with a huge serving of chips, gravey and salad for much cheaper than what they offer!

The only outdoor seating area is very small and right next to the smoking area on one side, a massive TV and the toilet entry at the other, and the screaming kids on the jumping thing on the other. It's horrible, smelly and extremely noisy.

It is popular only because there aren't many places in Katherine to eat unfortunately. If you are here during the winter and especailly driving school holidays, you will need to arrive before 6pm, otherwise you could be waiting to enter and get dinner for...
