Choux Box — Restaurant in Kingscliff

Have been coming here for years and always our favourite until now. Came in for breakfast and sat at a table inside and was given menus from a staff member with no other interaction. No coffees were offered. Sat ignored for 30 mins and when I called someone over to order they told me I have to use the qr code(which I don’t use due to cyber vulnerabilities) or at counter. I then mentioned is this a new thing and it’s about 6 months. I suggested when we sit down to advise of that. No signage to state that either. Maybe having on the tables and if giving menus mention at that time. Staff were walking past us for 30 mins how hard is it to see if we were ok? Appalling customer service. The place used to have an attention to detail and care now the waitresses are just there to take meals and remove from tables. Standing around trying to find things to do. They used to see how the meal was and offer more coffees etc. it’s really sad. Lost that “stand out from the crowd” feel. The kitchen is amazing as always Food terrific and hence why stars are higher. It’s all about the food here! Disappointing to see standards in customer service have dropped. Gone from wait staff to plate carriers. Bring back the customer service! Went to hope island tavern before Xmas and they have a great system where you pay but with a wait staff. So attentive and pay as you go. Who wants to have to go to the counter everytime you want an add on? Must be losing those...

For over 30 years, Choux Box has been a dependable fixture in the Kingscliff dining scene and our family dining traditions — reliable, consistent, and quietly confident in what it offers. Today, we chose it as the setting for a special occasion: my wife’s birthday. It proved to be a fitting choice.

Service was another highlight. The wait staff were attentive without being intrusive, polite, and genuinely helpful — the kind of hospitality that keeps us coming back.

Hmmmm…. Great seating outside and tables were well spaced when we went. Food was ok, in fact it was quite good. It was served really well and tasted as it should. The service was excellent and the staff were fabulous. A staff member even got the 4legged member a bowl of water which was much appreciated. It is on the more pricey side of a cafe and wondering if it was really worth it. It cost just over $80 for x2 non alcoholic drinks and x2 meals. These prices you would probably see more from a more sought after Restaurant. The Choux has been a regular of Kingy Cafe life for a very ‘long’ time and is still owned by the original owners I believe. I am a local and have been here a few times over the years… every time has been different from the bad to the very good. Looks like this is a place where you really have to make up...
