Basically the worst kept secret in Lismore. This bonza lil cafe persevered through biblical floods - recovering quickly to provide a haven for the community to gather.
Workers at Benchtop are absolutely beaut. I've shared many laughs and friendly conversations here over the years.
Big fan of their commitment to sustainability and the environment - which is evident through BYO cups, sourcing local, environmentally-friendly takeaway materials, donations to local sanctuaries and animal rescue orgs.
Place barely seems to close. They're great at communicating opening times via FB, Instagram, physical signage over public holidays/holiday periods too.
Other things to note: excellent dogs to be met here delicious cold brew (served all year) customer access to one of the least gross public toilets in town wholesome menu with a focus on fresh ingredients lots of plants to admire turnaround time for orders quite decent even when half the town...
Read moreIt was a disappointing visit to Benchtop espresso over the weekend, I was in town for the weekend with my partner visiting family and we stopped by Saturday morning for some take away coffees and pastries.
It was clearly busy with many people lining up out the door which was encouraging to see, however both the customer service and coffee were poor, we ordered 3 t/a coffees and some croissants and charged at ridiculous public holiday prices and when i questioned this I was given a very rude and short answer by the barista at front.
Our croissants were forgotten about as the paper tag got lost (creating some sort of chaos and confusion amongst staff) and sadly our coffees when ready were only warm and barely strong. I wanted to ask about this but felt I would get further rude and arrogant responses. I am very disappointed in this experience and it didn't make for a very nice welcome into Lismore. If we come again, I hope these...
Read moreNot too bad for a small cafe in a small town. We were told to have a seat and someone would be with us to take our order. That never happened so we ended up just ordering at the front ourselves.
My husband and I both ordered one dish and a drink. It cost us $60 for 4 items. Thankfully the food was really good. One of the best breaky burgers my husband has had he says.
Downfall was that for the amount of money charged, it would have been nice to eat on proper plates with proper silverware. We did however happen to share a short conversation with one of the staff who mentioned the dish washer was broken. So I’m assuming that’s the reason they were using cardboard and wooden cutlery. Considering this was a temporary issue, I didn’t feel it fair to rate them on it hence the 4 stars. Overall, really nice meal and pleasant staff. A little overpriced so not sure if we...
