Firstly, let's say that the venue reflects the obvious investment that has gone into this venue. It's fantastic to see a place like this in this area. Ambience is open, contemporary modern, and comfortable enough inside or out.
What becomes more confusing from herein however is the audience this type of venue is targeting. It's not regular pub goers (too pricey with another local tavern just around the corner). This is small batch brewing and you'd hope it partly targets the craft brew market, but that's not the case. Their brew offer is meagre with only 3 beers (all quite light lagers), but if you're keen on a German style Lager, then this isn't too far off the mark. The pick of the bunch is the Pure Crisp, but the other two (Komodo Black and Summer Dry) are pretty unremarkable given the high quality available in the Oz market right now from independent brewers both here and in New Zealand. They have an outside bar which had some Burleigh Brewing regular line beers, but there is no other offers from any other small Australian brewery (not even the SEQ locals).
What worries me is the price. There's no pots or pints here, so unless you grab a taster paddle you get schooners and that's it. Grab a couple of burgers and two beers and you won't see any change from $70. Realizing that the greedy ATO-excise is a killer for brewers here, but that's still very steep. That kind of money is usually attached to beer drinkers that not only seek quality, but also variety, and they have plenty of craft options now of where to spend their money.
I really hope the place continues to grow and perhaps we'll see some more varied small batch releases as...
Read moreIt's a large well planned space. There was lots of friendly staff working, so it never took long to order and empty plates & glasses were cleared from the table really quick. Seemed like everyone knew what they were doing and things were running smoothly.
At the moment they only had four beers on tap which all seemed fine and easy to drink. I'm perfectly ok with not having many choices if the available ones are decent but I do feel a couple of the ones currently on tap overlap in taste/style and aren't radically different enough. I gather they rotate taps as they brew different beers (based on other historical reviews) so perhaps there is an element of keeping it simple for business flow. I can respect that.
No ciders or ginger beers options on the taps either just as a side note.
As a craft beer fan I docked a star on the review just in the sense you might feel quite boxed in by the current choices available. There wasnt any IPA, hazy, hoppy etc options to choose from. Won't surprise me if they plan to expand the range in time and brew some other wilder styles? I suppose currently there are other smaller breweries pushing the boundaries on what they have on tap so my expectations are a bit high when visiting a new brewery these days.
Food ticked all the boxes required. Just straight solid choices and presentation. Appreciate a simple bar menu done well. Food from order to pickup was also good timing so they seem to handle the lunch rush well on the day I went.
Anyhow I personally think it's worth a visit if you're in the area as they've clearly put some time/energy/money...
Read moreThe venue had a great atmosphere and a lively vibe, making it a fantastic spot for our work Christmas party. The food was delicious, but I wouldn’t recommend the catered platters—they were significantly overpriced, particularly the antipasto and pizza slices.
The bar staff were exceptionally friendly and provided excellent service, which was a highlight of the experience. However, the music volume was a major downside. Even in a section farther away from the main music area (near the pizza kitchen), it was unbearably loud, making it nearly impossible to have a conversation without resorting to lip-reading. I can only imagine how uncomfortable it must have been for those seated closer to the speakers.
Reducing the volume would greatly improve the experience...
