福苑厨房 K.Ho Contemporary Chinese Cuisine — Restaurant in Melbourne

My family and I have been having dinners at this place many times since 2023. Not sure why this shop recently gets some bad reviews which didn't happen to us. I guess it is all about communications which needs to be considered at both sides.

I find the waitresses are helpful and nice, as they speak limited English and I can't speak Cantonese nor Mandarin to them. But every time of my visits, my orders are correctly prepared and served. From my 3rd visit, the short-haired lady at the counter remembers me, my preference for tea and chicken dishes. It was my birthday treat and i ordered my fav Singapore Chilli Crab. The crab meat was mushy and breaks apart. Only a dead crab would release enzymes and turn the crab meat to mush. The sauce doesnt taste like S'pore Chilli Crab at all. Sigh. The crab was barely 2 lbs but was charged 3.25lbs. Please refer to attached photo. We complained to the friendly waitress. Onion and ginger crab was bland, like homemade drowning in sauce. Asked for the crab pieces to be sent back to the kitchen to be properly cracked since it was not possible to eat it as is. Free range chicken was the highlight but according to my aunt, the chicken expert, bland. The braised beancurd had a flavourless brown sauce with cubes of pork skin and fat, 10 percent lean meat with lowest quality Chinese mushrooms possible. Service was gloomy and rowdy in the kitchen.
