Degani — Restaurant in Melbourne

I’ve been coming to this cafe for over three years. The coffee is consistently excellent, and it used to be part of my daily routine. However, the service has recently gone downhill, especially with one staff member who was extremely rude this morning.

I called ahead to order as I was rushing to work at 8:30 am, but when I arrived, my coffee hadn’t even been started at 8:40 am. I politely asked if it could be made within five minutes, as I was about to be late. If not, I said I’d come back later. The woman behind the counter ignored my question, made no effort to help, and just kept repeating that I had to wait because others ordered before me. I completely understand the "first come, first served" rule, I wasn’t asking to skip the queue, just asking a simple yes-or-no question to manage my time.

When I explained I’d need to cancel due to time pressure, she responded with attitude and told me, proudly, that I was welcome to complain to the manager. When I said I wouldn't waste my time on complain someone, this will make someone job harder. she replied that she didn’t want to waste her time on me.

Terrible service. If someone finds serving customers such a burden, maybe it’s time for a different job then don't have waste time. I come here for good coffee, not to be yelled. One rude staff member can ruin the whole experience. I won't give her name here because she is not...

This is the worse cafe I have been to in many years. First they forgot to deliver my parents food with their coffees, they had to ask and then they couldn’t find the order at all. My mum also asked twice for some cold milk on the side with her coffee but was given hot milk. I ordered separately to my parents and asked for 2 hot chocolates (one only warm for a child) and an orange juice. The juice came quickly but the hot chocolates didn’t come again until we asked. I saw the lady making the hot beverages tell the man I spoke to that nothing was ordered. Fortunately he remembered taking my order so told her we definitely did. We got the hot chocolates but both were only warm so I couldn’t enjoy my lukewarm chocolate (which couldn’t even melt the marshmallows, and mine was the hotter one). I’m sorry but my child might not want a very hot drink, but I don’t want a barely warm one. Staff was polite, just unorganised and losing orders all over the place. All Degani are the same - WRONG Recently I dined at Degani Box Hill quite by chance- it’s not the type of cafe I go to as I am a bit of a coffee snob. On entering the cafe’ we were warmly greeted by 3 different staff all with big friendly smiles We grabbed the menu my friend went a toastie but I chose Eggs Benny with truffled mushrooms and feta I had a long black and my friend had a flat white Service was quick and friendly and the coffee was hot and fabulous. I dug into my eggs and was blown away by the freshnesss and flavours - this was next level - Some people make very vinegary hollandaise but this was creamy and just the right piquancy. The mushrooms were perfectly cooked not little slugs but caramelised perfection and married with the feta beautifully, all of this on toasted sourdough. It would be easy to think I was in a high end Toorak breakfast eatery - But NO - DEGANI- BOX HILL - I was so blown away Congratulations to the team on such an incredible level of food prep and service- I didn’t take a photo so went back the next day for more and the experience and food was just as good.
