Celebrated my cousin's birthday at Aangan Footscray! Extremely busy store with practically impossible availablity and insane wait times. Had a booking for a table and yet had to wait for nearly 20 minutes at the eerie alleyway and another 15 minutes outside. With the kind of rush at the place, I feel it is the responsibility of the proprietorship to expand the available real estate by removing all the unnecessary cultural reflections and indian relics...
About the food, flavour wise excellent Balti paneer and Kadai lamb. Portion wise, not worth the money charged. The drinks are to be served in appropriate glasses. Wine glasses are wine glasses for a reason. Evidently Aangan don't understand why a red wine must not served in a Champagne flute and a white wine shouldn't be served in a cordial glass. Drinks are charged at the price of any average bar and neither the quantity nor the quality of the drinks served are at par with the prices charged. When being relied on by the customer for quality food and quality time, quality is what the customer deserves ,not just in food, but in everything. The Puran Singh chicken was not worth the praise and the gravy was typical with soggy and chunky pieces of chicken. Excellent nan breads and flavoursome biriyani, complements to the chef. For the food, I'd rate : 2/5 For the drinks,I'd rate: 0/5
From the disappointing and depressing wait, the next best thing after my cousin's birthday happened when we were served by a very positive and energetic staff, S**n ( not directly mentioning the name of the staff to respect privacy). It was an absolute delight to have, what could have been a depressing dinner, turned around with the pleasant and charming service offered. We received excellent service in the midst of an extremely busy Saturday evening and couldn't help but notice the composure and compassion to the customers by the staff. Aangan must be very proud of their staff, particularly those who served at the open lounge area last Saturday. If it weren't for the staff, I believe I wouldn't have left such a lengthy review when I should have just commented on the food. For the staff,I'd rate : 5/5.

Read moreTerrible experience here on a Saturday night! Booked ahead the previous day for a party of 2 people and when I walked in right on time for my 7pm booking, I was told that the wait would be 30 minutes for a table... regardless of my booking. I emphasised that I had booked a table which was also confirmed and the waitress pointed at the restaurant, shrugs and says “yes, but we are busy”. When I calmly asked her for a manager or supervisor, I was told they weren’t in tonight 😂 She walked away for a moment to talk to another girl, and ended up finding a table for me and my partner, but was not happy or welcoming about it. First impression of the restaurant - not very good. The restaurant was clearly taking walk-ins and taking in far too many people regardless of current COVID regulations. My partner and I felt quite uncomfortable with how many people were seated in each room. What’s the point of having a booking system, if you don’t know how to hold a booking!? After being seated, we were completely ignored for about 30 minutes before being asked if we’d like to order.
After waiting and waiting, it came to our realisation that they completely forgot about the wines we ordered and we had to ask agin for these at least 30 minutes after ordering! Whilst this isn’t a big deal, and we were just happy to receive our wines, when we finally received our wines, they were undrinkable and the smell of the Shiraz was just foul! Have never experienced this at a restaurant before and had no choice but to send it back.
Food took another 20-25 minutes after that to come and I could not believe it when one dish was only lukewarm and the other was hot. How does that even happen? It’s a shame because the flavours of the sauces in the dishes were actually quite nice. Also, the butter chicken had barely any chicken in it and was well over cooked where the outside of the chicken was rock hard (at least it wasn’t undercooked haha).
Anyways, I am sure this restaurant is great on a quiet week day. But this experience has completely put me off and I won’t make the trip out to this restaurant again. Plenty of other awesome Indian restaurants...
Read moreWe came from ballarat on Christmas day and thought of having some good food in Melbourne while returning to ballarat but we really had horrible experience with Aangan Restaurant, Footscray.
First of all, we got the food after almost 50 mins.
We have ordered butternaan and chicken curry and chicken fried rice. I'm into hospitality industry since 2016 but I never seen this kind of worst butternaans and never had in my life, literally It was like Maida, when I asked staff about the quality, they said this is what they give.
Coming to chicken curry's, we have ordered Butter chicken Tikka masala and Chicken madras. I don't feel that was fresh and feels like they kept in freezer and later sauted when we ordered, feels like rotten.
Coming to Chicken Fried Rice(17$), Rice is not fresh, it's like dried while eating and we hardly got 4-5 very small chicken pieces in that, it's like more veg fried rice because of carrots and spring onion in that.
Later we got upset with stomach and left food in the middle after spending 100+$ to eat this rotten food, later shown it to the lady Manager there but she was convincing with her reasons like every restaurant does.
I don't know how these people running restaurant with this quality and taste. I never recommend to anyone in near future and visit again after all this horrible experience 🙏 I don't recommend anyone too.
I don't appreciate your efforts in making us to convince in the end after leaving food in the middle...🙂 I would have much appreciated if you have focused on making and providing tasty & quality food to customers instead of making excuses and giving your reasons which no one wants for 100$.
This is our honest feedback what we had experienced at Aangan Restaurant and shared with manager too but later she tried to convince us with giving biryani before...
