Al's Pizza — Restaurant in Melbourne

I hardly get takeout and this was my first time getting delivery. We used to get pizza from Al’s and only from Al’s but I haven’t had it in a couple of years.

General: Flavour of bread was brought out as the underside of the pizza was golden brown and slightly crusty. Napoli base was tasty and thick. Ingredients were of good quality. Smelled amazing.

Pizzas I ordered: (2 half and half, large) - Margherita, Ultimate, Bbq chicken, Spicy chicken.

Margherita: Sauce tasted great. Lots of Mozzarella, I think there was more mozzarella than Napoli which is fine but I wish there was more sauce overall! I selected ‘basil’ as an extra ingredient which came in a tiny plastic container and the leaves were strangely dark but you can’t complain about something that cost you $0.

Ultimate: This has been my favourite. Great combo of ingredients that work well together. It’s great you can deselect and add ingredients on the website - I remember my brother used to get annoyed if my mum ordered the pizza and forgot to say, over the phone, ‘no anchovies’. I think you guys changed from using brown onion to red onion?

Bbq chicken: Very good amount of chicken, cut into thin wide flat slices. Bbq sauce tasted great but my taste buds yearned for more! I looked at potential additional ingredients (under 'Add Extras'), and one said ‘BBQ base’ and I assumed this pizza already had it, but I did not read the ingredients of the bbq chicken pizza properly and it came with the Napoli sauce base and not much of it. ----The game-changing option of having the Bbq base for this particular pizza should be very clear because I think it would have been amazing had I ordered it with the bbq base!!!!!

Spicy chicken: I have never ordered this before. Very good amount of chicken. There were only 2 jalapeño slices per pizza slice. It was plain for my taste so I won’t order it again but many people must like it if it's on the menu. Maybe I should have ordered it with some parmesan and the garlic base for more bite and contrast with the other pizzas.

Overall: The pizzas were great - because of the combos and quality of the bread, sauces and other ingredients.

I’ll remember to select the bbq base if I order the bbq chicken again! Bbq base = game-changer. You could state that it should be the recommended base for this pizza.

I got a bit confused with the terms 'sauce' and 'base', because the Garlic pizza says it has 'garlic' not a 'garlic base' ('garlic base' was a base in the added extras). this could mean the garlic pizza has no base at all? 'Napoli sauce' means a pizza has the Napoli base, however, 'Bbq sauce' was not a base, it was a topping. Napoli sauce I found under the category 'Sauces' where it costs $0 to add (I never knew this could be a topping), but it was not in the category 'Bases' where i think it should be as well. I will appreciate it if you could make these things a bit clearer on the website.

To leave a review i had to rate, this place has NO star. Ordered a pizza and some buffalo wings the order arrived very cold, unsightly and packaging had lots of finger prints. We did not eat the food, had to throw it in the bin, it was DISGUSTING to look at. The driver had very dirty clothes, had a very bad smell coming out of him too. Will never order from this place again, we now order somewhere else. Do not waste your money at this very small business. A lot of people we know who used to order from this place also stopped because this so called Al's Pizza in Forest Hill does not know how to make pizzas they make DISGUSTING PIZZAS I would not even give any of their food to a dog. The Manager severely lacks manners and has no clue on customer service. We have told a lot of our friends not to order...

I was waiting for some pizzs's to be made & the owner told a delivery driver that their order would be another 15 minutes. When their order was ready, the owner then asked the driver where their delivery bag was? Driver didn't have one & then was asked to cancel the delivery & a new delivery driver would have to be found. The delivery driver then said they should have told him that a bag was needed when he first walked in & was told to wait 15 minutes. Driver said he wasted his time & now the order would also be cold for the customer. Pizza maker didn't care & was rude, kept saying cancel...
