Sunday brunch should be so fulfilling, enriching and sumptuous that it can’t give you Monday Blues! @auntbilliescafe at Blackburn is a lovely breakfast/brunch spot that has all the right food and beverages to recharge you for the rest of the week.
What we had:
French toast, which is so out of the world, tasty, has so many layers to make it impossibly irresistible, served with brioche toast coated in cornflakes, rhubarb purée, boysenberry mascarpone, pistachio crumb and vanilla icecream. Strongly recommended.
Surrey Mushrooms, such a mouthwatering and a fresh bowl of so many different types of mushrooms, spinach, crispy polenta, basil pesto, buffalo mozzarella, poached eggs. I really loved this one more, because of it’s satisfying taste. Must try.
Lamb Shoulder, such an incredibly delicious lunch dish that’s not just very filling but the combination of herb crusted eggplant with 12hr slow cooked lamb shoulder, turned out to be simply divine. Packed with so much flavours of capsicum purée, dukkah confit, garlic labne, burnt sage, butter and toasted baguette. The taste of this dish still lingers in my mind since it’s so refreshing. Strongly recommended.
Helena smoothie, so filling and tasted very refreshing.
Latte was perfectly brewed with an intense flavour. Loved it.
The best thing about their dishes that these are very well presented yet tastes absolutely fantastic and yum. The prices of the menu items are very standard, and the service is very prompt even on a busy weekend morning.
They vibe here is very relaxing, with a spacious outdoor and indoor seating area. Perfect spot to stop for a bite over coffee.

Read moreI just ordered a takeaway coffee- first of all, overall it was great cafe. There was one girl who kept on talking to her “guy friend” who stands in front of the counter. I was patiently waiting but she just kept on talking. In fact, there is another lovely girl who served me and took my order. This girl with glasses, shouldn’t be working there if she think this is classroom and her playground. More importantly I had to wait for more than 10-15 mins while she just move around and it takes freaking ten mins to make one small flat white with her mouth never closed- yuck. Her saliva kept on falling and it was not a good feeling. I made a complaint to the manager saying if she just focus on making coffee instead of taking to her guy friend who just stands in front of the counter, she would have make coffee three times faster. When other staff were all lovely and trying to cover her, she just kept talking and not a good feeling when I received a two cups of take away coffee knowing that probably half of my coffee were fill of her saliva from her non stop talking. yuck. I had to throw away the two coffee and wasted 16 dollars. Hope I have to face this girl with the glasses and her guy friend should know this is a coffee shop not their flirting play ground. Wish her manager have a word with this girl. Gosh, what a waste of time. Overall the atmosphere was great, Hope next time would be better. I really wanted to request my coffee make it again but had no time seriously, when you are there as a barrister to make and serve, Please be mindful and be thinking of others hygiene - instead of laughing talking to your boy friend and taking forever to make...
Read more4.3. This is an excellent cafe that gets all the fundamentals right. It has an excellent menu, space, food and service. It is easily the best cafe in the area from what I’ve seen so far, particularly in the North Blackburn and Nunawading areas.
First off, it’s a decently styled light filled cafe. It’s well designed and laid out. It has interesting shapes and textures throughout including a light wood feature wall, numerous funky light fittings and a good number of tables. There’s also a decent sized and shaded outdoor area.
They have a very good hipster style menu here. There are stacks of good choices, both healthy and not so healthy. The nieces and nephews section of the menu is undeniably cute. I started with a sumptuous long black served on a cute board with a tiny glass of sparkling water. This was as pretty as a picture. Lovely St Ali coffee on offer here. It’s hard to start a meal better for mine than having coffee of this quality.
I ordered the brunch salad with grilled broccolini, broad beans, kale, avocado, beetroot hummus, walnuts and quinoa with pomegranate dressing. I added salmon and poached egg and feta ($2 only). The dish was well presented and was absolutely delicious. It’s a very healthy dish and a good sized serve. I couldn’t fault it. I thought it was a brilliant dish and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Service was excellent throughout. The staff were up and about. Attentive, polite and efficient.
This is a terrific cafe. It would give a few highly rated inner city brunch places a run for their money on what...
