Mediocre bread, I find them a bit dry most of the time. The only reason we went was because itās on the way and because of their āfrequent customer cardā, which according to the card every $40th (4 stamps) spent you get free bread rolls and every $60th (6 stamps) spent you get a free loaf. I opted not to redeem my free bread as after spending $10 as I already have enough bread to eat. Went back the next time to redeem my breads, but was told Iād have to spend ANOTHER $20 to redeem them ... even though I had already spent $60 at the shop and was willing to forfeit my stamp card after redeeming my bread (card had 12 spots total, I had 8 stamps). Or I suggested that we can move the 8th and 9th stamp to the 4th and 8th stamp spot. But NO. I had to spend another $20 right there if I wanted to claim my breads.
Got lectured by the owner after talking to the cashier lady, on how much charity they do (honestly i know a lot of bread shops who donate to charity, so you're not the only bakery who does that, nothing to brag about) and how they are fair, and how he is very experienced in the bakery field. But really my only concern was the shop forcing me to spend another $20 for bread which I could've redeemed but chose not to redeem during my last 2 visit.
Ridiculous as either way Iād have already spent the same amount at the bakery, the only difference was WHEN I chose to redeem my bread. Can get better bread at a cheaper price somewhere else, now Iād rather go OUT of my way to buy bread elsewhere, not...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI don't live near Mont Albert, yet when ever nearby I always stop in to stock up on bread. It will last for days on the bench without going stale like bread from a supermarket on generic large franchised bakery. Freezing and thawing the bread is still better than most fresh bread. Neighbours and friends have commented many times on the quality of the bread and some even now drive several suburbs for no reason than very nice bread. Personal favourites are the Sourdough and Ciabatta bread and if you haven't had a bagel dog you don't know what you are...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreBig fan since days of Bread Street. Normal order is white block for toast and six sesame seed rolls. Long, round, shell. Doesnāt matter the shape, all are delicious. If I may add one bit of advice it would be more sesame seeds and maybe baked a bit longer to darken them up a bit. I am a grey nomad and whenever in Melbourne I make sure I am only a few suburbs away such as Richmond, Hawthorn, Malvern area. Happy to drive ten, fifteen kilometres to buy the best bread in not only Melbourne but Australia. And believe me I get to see many parts of the...
