Bakes & Bagels (Thornbury) — Restaurant in Melbourne

It's hard finding a bagel place that offers a similar experience to New York City, Bakes & Bagels come close. I chose a Reuben with an everything bagel, two cravings that have been barely satiated since visiting New York pre-COVID. The hunt for a Reuben with the right quantum of pastrami (lots) balanced with an equal amount of Sauer kraut (also lots) is surprisingly hard to come by, Bakes & bagels delivers on this. The generous packaged bagel will definitely fill you up and leave you very satisfied. The team has not compromised the quality with quantity, the flavours of the Reuben hits the spot perfectly with the right amount of sauce and pickles.

Cute little ten seater with outdoor seating for your pets. Veryyyyy pet friendly, they have a Polaroid wall full of dogs and owners. They were pumping old school RNB on the weekends which is a vibe.

Two x everything bagels 🥯🥯 One with pastrami, the other with chicken. I was expecting shredded roast chicken, but it was more of a sliced chicken ham which was underwhelming. The breakfast bagel options are also impressive, with a side of fresh OJ!

My partner used to pick-up takeaway from here after night shifts. They're some of the best value bagels around. They're soft and delicious but probably not "authentic" - they don't have that chewy bite to them. I enjoyed the "Teriyummy Tofu" with slaw and kimchi sitting out the front on a sunny Sunday.
