It's that store almost everyone has the same experience with. The one you drive by time and time again, and always wonder what's inside. A great destination for vintage clothing, an alternative to the offerings of modern outlets. Other curiosities await in here, such as vinyl records and collectables. High quality clothing, with some exciting and unique finds. A great option outside of the shopping malls. It's worth the visit and adventure, even if you don't get something on your first trip. The stock changes, so you can come back in several weeks or months and uncover a whole new treasure load of interesting picks. Always something to find here, if you're looking for something a little bit different.

Absolutely love retropolis - have visited many times and bought some gorgeous furniture pieces and art for my home. My only gripe would be lack of clothing options for plus size people, but I also acknowledge that vintage clothing sizes were much narrower. All in all though I love coming here.

As a vintage store in Melbourne, it's quite a large space, but I found the quality of items being sold there disappointing. I understand that different individual sellers rent spaces to sell their finds, but I noticed a lot of stalls included items that clearly come from China, with no brand or belonging to cheap fast fashion brands. Some of these pieces were priced up to \$100, which really doesn’t make sense.

Yes, I know I don’t have to buy them, so I’m not trying to complain — I just want to share my thoughts. As a vintage buyer, I feel like the types of items being sold in this place are making it lose its true vintage charm. Many people come here expecting genuine vintage pieces, not low-quality fast fashion being sold at triple the price.

Also, some shoppers might not know how to identify authentic vintage or distinguish it from unbranded, mass-produced items — which can make the experience a bit misleading.

No offense intended — just an honest opinion.

This is an updated comment after the owner's reply. I understand you have a business to run and want to expand your sales by offering different styles, but I honestly don’t see many genuine vintage items being sold as “vintage.” Even non-vintage pieces are often labeled as “Y2K-inspired” or something similar. I also saw a fake Chanel top being described as “absolutely real Chanel” — I get that the seller might’ve meant it as a joke, but it’s really not funny. Labeling a fake item as “absolutely real” is misleading and unacceptable. Items like that should not be allowed in any store.

After reading your responses to other negative reviews, it seems like you’re not open to any criticism — not even well-meaning advice. I know my comment probably won’t change anything, but it’s honestly disappointing for those of us who appreciate authentic vintage fashion.

To fellow customers looking for real vintage items: please check the washing labels and brand tags carefully before buying. If you see Chinese washing labels, the item is most likely made in China and not vintage. Even some pieces with very basic English labels can still be non-vintage. Genuine vintage items usually have clear material and origin information — so take a close look before you buy.

Good luck out there, and much love to the sellers who stay committed to real...

Up in Preston is a vintage treasure trove that beckons to those with an appreciation for all things retro and nostalgic. As a person with an eye for unique finds, my visit to Retropolis was a delightful journey through time.

The store's interior exudes a charmingly chaotic yet curated atmosphere. Racks adorned with an eclectic array of vintage garments, shelves filled with retro knick-knacks, and displays of classic accessories transport visitors to eras gone by. The carefully chosen selection showcases a keen eye for quality, ensuring that every piece carries a touch of nostalgia and history.

What sets Retropolis apart is the remarkable curation. Each item feels like a carefully chosen relic from the past, with its own story to tell. Whether you're in search of a vintage dress that whispers of the 1950s or a funky 1980s windbreaker, Retropolis offers a diverse and well-preserved collection that caters to all tastes and styles.

The staff at Retropolis are not only affable but also remarkably knowledgeable about the items in stock. They're more than happy to regale you with the history of a particular piece or help you find that perfect gem that speaks to your individual style. Their passion for vintage shines through in their willingness to assist and share their expertise.

Navigating Retropolis is an adventure in itself. The layout, though eclectic, invites exploration, with each corner revealing new surprises. It's a testament to the care taken in presenting the items, creating an environment that encourages discovery and excitement.

In conclusion, Retropolis in Melbourne is a haven for vintage enthusiasts and treasure hunters alike. Its curated selection, knowledgeable staff, and inviting atmosphere make it a standout destination for those seeking a nostalgic journey through fashion and memorabilia. Whether you're on the hunt for a specific vintage piece or simply looking to soak in the charm of yesteryears, Retropolis is a must-visit...

Fun to browse but some of the prices are a real laugh. Some items are true vintage gems and the price tag is understandable! But there’s also dirty, stained, damaged clothes no older than 2010ish being sold for similar prices. There was a very stained Northface puffer with tears in the sleeves.. it wasn’t even vintage, nor fixable, around ~$80 Save up the extra $50 and buy yourself a new one :) Also a “vintage housecoat” about $70? Spoiler alert - It’s a crusty dusty old dressing gown. Lastly, a top from TARGET that I own, $5 from savers
guess what? $45 at this place. Those were some gems that stood out to me. I know you guys don’t claim to be an op shop, it’s a “curated” selection (aka scalped from op shops and marked up 10x the price, because the poors don’t deserve to find nice things at the oppy
but the moral corruption is beside the point). It’s embarrassing trying to sell dirty and damaged clothes at a ridiculous mark up. If it’s truly some “rare gem” the least you could do is fix it up before putting it on the rack. If that’s not possible then maybe just don’t sell it? Or at least price that stuff...
