Wonderful little cafe. Was staying nearby and decided to make it my local, and for 4 days in a row I started my days off right! Over the course of my stay I ate: - French Toast (Pictured) - Grilled Salmon - Prawn Bianchi And I drank: - Cappuccino - Iced Mocha - Short Macchiato And every single day I was impressed. Most cafes stick to the usual toasted sandwiches and muffins but boy am I glad that wasn't the case. All the food and the coffee was delectable, the staff were hilarious and down to earth, and the locals and location are honestly fantastic. In such a small period of time I felt welcome and well looked after. I definitely recommend Brother Nancy and am looking forward to visiting again when I'm back in town!

Delicious coffee, my flat white was well made and cute latte art with a swan. Made with Dukes coffee. Chai latte was tasty, using real leaves (Prana Chai) and strained into a warmed cup. Handy outdoor seating, mainly for groups of two. Most of the menu is marked gluten free or can be adapted however none of the cakes (Cremorne bakery) appear to be gluten free. A few items marked gf on their menu look iffy. Barley is definitely not gluten free so don't eat the risotto. Soba, while it uses buckwheat is usually made with a lot of wheat (only the most expensive brands are 100% buckwheat so just check with them before ordering)

Brother Nancy features traditional eggs and toast and some dishes with a French and Guatemalan fare. We were a group of five and were served excellent coffee and juices very quickly. My partner had the broccoli fritters which was accompanied with Tuscan kale, roasted tomato, pumpkin purée, goats cheese and a crumbed egg. Both interesting and very filling. I loved the freshness of the Coconut Tapioca Pudding, topped with fresh seasonal fruit. Would highly recommend but the down side is they don’t accept bookings, so for a group of four or more, you can’t be sure if you can get in.

As soon as we entered this place we were treated terribly by the lady working there. She was rude, unhelpful and passive aggressive - very unfriendly. I just read another review by Lisa who gave 1 star who said she felt demeaned and treated differently to other customers- exactly our experience. So unhelpful and almost mean and gruff to us yet friendly to others. She messed up an order but didn't apologise and acted like we were lying and when we later said in a friendly way we were sorry for the (small amount of) mess our baby had made, she huffed at us!! My husband thought it must be because he looks Indian?! Or because we had a baby (even though says kid friendly?!?) Not sure why but some of the worst treatment I've ever experienced in a cafe. The guy who made coffee, though, was the opposite. Very friendly and great customer service. Lose the lady and could be alright there (food average, coffee good). Will not be back. Will...

Service was extremely poor. The place was empty with one 1 table with 2 people on it. The table we were sat at was dirty. We had to ask for menus. They never came back to take our order. Had to call them over. The food took 30 minutes to come out. Again, only one other table with 2 people that already had their food. We ordered the fritters. They were dry and burnt. The kale never made it to our plate. The poached eggs were over cooked and hard yolks. The halloumi was also burnt and crispy. When we went to pay, the guy who took our payment didn't even smile or ask is how our meal was. I did advise that the food wasn't great. Didn't get an apology or a discount. Was just told that he would let the chef know. I can almost guarantee that the message probably never made it to the chef. Won't be...

Reading through the past reviewer comments and I'm surprised that this still gets a 5 star rating. I've been a patron since brother nancy started and have seen the steady decline of this cafe and it's sad to say but this is the bottom of the brunch/coffee list for me. The soul has really left, the food is okay (used to be better), the coffee okay (used to be better) on some days but compared to it's competition; dumbo around the corner, Migrant and West 48 a few blocks across and Rudimentary in the centre of Footscray. There isn't a lot to say that's good, it's just an average cafe that's lost it's place in the West. Needs to reassess what the community want and inject some 'vibe' back into it's bones; because unfortunately it's not meeting the standards we are used to from cafes on this...
