Browns Corner Hotel — Restaurant in Melbourne

You know those good news/bad news situations? Well this review falls into that category as shall be outlined for those considering frequenting this estsblishment... I attended approximately 3:35am roughly 6 weeks or so ago with only 20 minutes before the venue was closing as per state government imposed operating hours of 10am to 4am which commenced a year ago now... The 'good news' was within 10 minutes I'd landed myself a $3,200 Major having only invested $50 - happy days!?! The 'bad news' was that I do not possess any form of photo ID & the Venue Manager On Duty refused to bend the rules by putting the win in my friends name who'd attended with me, meaning I could collect my cheque... I arranged to meet with the actual Venue Manager who in all honesty proved to be a bit of a tool & basically refused to consider issuing my cheque against the several no photo forms of ID I'd brought with me (Healthcare Card, Bank Statement, Tax Assessment, Medicare Card, Centrelink Payment Summary) which another friendlier venue had accepted in the recent past for a cheque of the same amount approximately... So several weeks later I'm still to be paid out my cheque due essentially to the stubbornness & inflexibility of the Venue Manager, which is obviously a major disappointment - talk about turning what shoulda been a brilliant, happy situation into a negative outcome when the discretion clearly exists to pay my cheque as proven by a nearby venue within the past 12 months... People approach customer service differently but usually management can find a way to a amicable solution - not as yet with this venue, sadly... Nonetheless I shall fight on until us...

While there isn't much to like about this pub from the outside, the decor / furniture and floorings have seen better days, the Browns Corner Hotel is exactly the right pub for exactly this part of Coburg. Staffed by so many different, friendly and inviting workers the Browns Corner Hotel never makes you feel unwelcome. The meals, I can only comment on lunch, are steady, delicious and will ensure you do not go hungry until dinner time. They have all the usual pub specials, all the required drinks on tap and are never, ever in a rush - though I have seen a lunch express advertised. Not my style. There is a steady flow of riff-raff, seniors groups, tradies, business people and families across any lunch service. Do yourself a favour and ignore the outside because shes a winner...

Booked the function room which is advertised as free. Came to pay at end of day and advised have to pay for room hire as we did not meet their minimum spend as specified in their contract. Only problem contract never given to us or mentioned. Finger food overpriced for very ordinary food. One plus is the ability to bring in some of your own food. However one big issue, two tables of food some ours, some theirs, about hour and a half in both tables overun with ants! Ended up with hundreds of dollars of food in the bin! Not impressed and hard...
