Been a loyal customer since they had their shop in glen Waverley. Food has always been great over the last few years when they opened in pinewood, and we come regularly at least 3-4 times a year.
Today is my last day I will go there unfortunately, the waiter took our order, we ordered many dishes between 2 people, one of which was the cave salt chicken and red cave salt. When it came out the red cave salt seemed a little saucy than what it previously looked like, so we had a bite just in case they had changed the recipe, it was the lava one instead. We let another waitress know about this, she said it was fine and will let manager know.
The waiter that initially came and took our order said “you already ate it, so if you would like to order another red cave salt I can order it”.
I explained that we only took a bite as we didn’t know if they had changed the recipe, so they agreed to rectify the problem. When it came down to the bill the waiter had added the new red cave salt as a seperate order which meant we had to pay more. It’s not about the money but in my opinion the waiter could’ve handled the situation better instead of pushing the blame onto the customer. The army stew also tasted different from what it used to be.
Overall I would suggest changing staff or management so another situation like this doesn’t reoccur, not to mention the table behind us also had the incorrect order being given out to them too.
Goodbye cavemen 1961 days.
Edit: 21/7/23 Came back here after a year, not expecting much as I came because my friend wanted to eat here for dinner.
The staff were different from the last time I came. The chicken quality was consistent ! The fried chicken cave salt and the red cave salt tasted just as good I remembered which was a relief, also ordered the kimchi and pork stew which had lots of kimchi and tofu in it, perfect meal for a cold winters night :) I think I will...

My friend recently booked a spot for Fathers' Day celebration and had secured the booking about 1-2 weeks before the event.
24 hours before the event day, the owner/manager of this restaurant contacted one of my friend's booking BY TEXT saying they have cancelled the booking. My friend, as an event organizer was totally embarrassed and stressed out of having to find alternative within 24 hours.
Fortunately the owner/manager did this in writing so I am advising him to now go to Consumer Affairs Victoria (CAV) to inform them of this behaviour especially when there appears to be a pattern (See below).
Eventually, he managed to find an alternative place but that was very last minute. When he had to explain the changeover to the attendees, some of the attendees mentioned to him that this restaurant appears to have this habit of cancelling or dishonouring bookings in the past after accepting them in the first place.
EDIT: Response to the owner. Thank you for the reply. It is to be expected as it was Father's Day and just like Mother's Day where there could be multiple person booking a place, the owner should not assume it came from the same group. My friend's booking was for 18 people so I don't understand why you have to say it was 38 or 40. It is irrelevant and we have this in writing.
Regardless, you had at least 7 days to reply. 7 full days and yet you chose the last 24 hours to cancel. You should edit your profile to inform your customers you don't...

I could not recommend Caveman1961 enough and I want more people to know about them! The menu is simple and straightforward. Choose how many pieces chicken wings and choose the sauces, which you can mix and match! For two people, I recommend at least 20 pieces with 10 on Original Cave Salt and 10 on Red Cave Salt. Only try Flaming Lava if you can truly handle spicy stuff! I also would recommend ordering the Korean Stew and I would recommend either Soft Tofu, Kimchi Pork, or Sausage Ham because I love my Korean Stew spicy! And if that is not enough, the Cheesy Corn, Kimchi Pancake, and Bibimbap are delicious addons.
I come to dine in at Caveman 1961 at least once a every two weeks. I would take my friends here and their kids, and my family. Everyone of which could not get enough of the Korean Style Fried Chicken Wings. Sometimes we have had to order more, and you can take away what you don’t finish.
So go check them out right now! Five Silver Spoons...
