I organised a lunch function for my Mum's birthday here and in the lead up to the event everything seemed fine, but on the day we received horrible service, the owner was very rude and the communication was very poor.
While the majority of guests enjoyed the food, which I must admit was tasty, we did ask for all dishes to be mild, however there were a couple that were very very spicy that kids could not eat and even some adults.
I was under the impression there would be a person at the bar serving drinks, but on the day I was told that I would have to do this myself. When a bar person was put on, they tried to charge guests for drinks even though I said I would pay for all drinks at the end of the function (the owner was aware of this). Guests commented on the lengthy wait time for drinks.
When organising the event, I was told that the kitchen staff could cut and serve the birthday cake, but when I arrived in the morning to drop the cake off I was told we would have to do this ourselves. In the end, the owner agreed to cut the cake (which they did a terrible job).
In terms of cleanliness and presentation, there was very little care. The cake table cloth was dirty and very creased, this was obvious to the owner but I had to follow it up with them to fix up. There were holes in the chair covers and one chair was unstable so I had it removed. All the highchairs were filthy, we had to ask staff to clean the table tops so kids could sit at them.
We were told there would be papadums on the table for guests upon arrival, but this was not done. Towards the end of the event we felt very rushed as the staff wanted to start cleaning up and to get us out of the function room, even though we had asked to stay until 4.30pm.
During the function the owner stood at the back of the room with his arms folded looking across the room. It was very unprofessional and some guests commented on how unpleasant it was to see.
I wouldn't recommend Shavans and won't be going back again under the...
Read moreThe ambience of the restaurant was nice and that was one of the reasons I wanted to visit this place, we went last week on a weekday and no one was in the restaurant. It looks very nice and clean and the interior is quiet and very nice. We ordered a cappuccino and tea as we were after a blood donation and wanted some home feeling warm food. We ordered hot butter cuttlefish is was very ordinary tasting nothing out of the ordinary and this wasn’t too bad we felt the food hasn’t got much flavour then comes out main dished seafood nasi goreng and a chicken string hopper Biriyani. This wasn’t too bad the major disappointment. The presentation of the food looks very nice. The string hopper Biriyani tasted sour and funny and didn’t taste good. The nasi goreng smelt very bad like if something had gone bad and I didn’t feel eating at all. All these dishes either was stale or freezed and didn’t taste fresh. I think the fish in the seafood nasi goreng has gone bad and that’s from where the smell came from we left the food uneaten. Quite disappointing as restaurants like this can damage the reputation of Sri...
