China Bar Westfield Doncaster — Restaurant in Melbourne

I have been going to this shopping mall for 10 years and my partner and I sometimes will eat in but not our favourite. Today I had a very BAD experience with the food and service from the staffs end up one of the older chef in the kitchen yelling at me all the time. At first the dish is doesn’t really match to the photo I saw from the menu. The photo looks nice and make me like to try but end up is dry looking and deep fry honey chicken with egg fry rice. I was trying so hard to except this dish but I really can’t because this deep fry chicken is very very thin chicken with FULL of deep fry flour and the chicken is not fresh at all, it’s pre fry product, the elder chef show me the stock too. The chicken is no chicken meat fibre texture at all. I really can’t except this kind of quality of food at all as I myself also a Chef too. I didn’t review I am a Chef too from the start, I ask for exchange to different dish but they can’t make up their mind what other dish they can offer me, I also told them I can’t eat beef but yet the keep offer me beef and the elder chef keep saying can’t this can’t that I ask for roast duck they said can’t I ask salt and pepper chicken they can’t but one one can make discussions what can offer me. I mean I just can’t except this poor quality food and asking for other replacement yet I get yelled off until the end I talk to other Chef yet the elder chef keep telling me off out loud in front of everybody. End the younger girl say if I like duck rice I can pay the remain price than I can have the roast duck. I said it’s so simply you can offer me some think and I will pay the remaining money, I am happy to pay only $1 different. But the elderly chef keep attacking me yelling at me said pay me back. It is not about money as a customer I am been abusing by China Bar at Doncaster shopping mall. It’s making me very upset the whole day. Not only that there is another younger guy trying tell other and say I can’t exchange anything at all he said I ate half already. Well the photo don’t lie. Even I pay the money and get my roast duck but guess what ? By right if I pay the duck rice $17.50 will come with a drink but yet they didn’t give me any drink and keep gossiping about me with the other colleagues in front of everyone too. I really hope the China Bar management see this hope your company need to retrain all the staffs. I am a chef been working with big company, when we face this type of problem we will shut our mouth and trying to give the best salutions and not arguing with customer at all. Horrible restaurant - Overpricing, Poor Operation and No Customer Service.

That is the first time I write a review to a restaurant.

My wife and I were in there today and I had a worst catering experience we ever had in ANY restaurant before.

Average food but overpriced. That is still ok if you catered at a good environment with good service. We had order an omelette BBQ pork rice and roasted duck and BBQ pork dry noodle. From the time we got into the restaurant and the time the food were at the table. It took 40mins. But the worst thing is they gave me an omelette BBQ pork with NO BBQ PORK. It is like you ordering a BIG MAC at McDonald with no meat. No excuse at all from the staff and just told my wife wait for another one. I was in hurry to work so I don't care about the wrong dish but just ask for taking away the food, At the beginning the staff only gave a container to us. No cutlery? We have to ask again then they gave us a fork. No bag. Ask again to get a bag. I can see many staff are untrained.

One more thing please keep in mind they wait for their food delivery trolley to be fulled before delivering them to different tables. So the food you ordered might already be sit at the...

So, I ordered the ‘chef's special‘ with crispy pork and tofu on rice(火腩豆腐饭）, thinking it would be awesome. Turns out, it was more like the "where is the pork". Instead of yummy pork, I got frozen baby corn and chopped veggies. Looking for the crispy pork was like a treasure hunt, but all I found were a few tiny pieces - less than my cat's treat.

When I asked the waitress why there was so little crispy pork, she said it honestly : 'crispy pork is expensive, so they don't give much. You ordered chef special, that’s cheaper than ordinary dish, That's what you get’.

WOW that’s the first time I learned chef’s special = cheap lunch special. 👍
