There are some places that hold a special place in your heart. For years, Co Do in Melbourne was that place for my parents and me—a reliable spot for authentic Vietnamese cuisine. Sadly, our recent visit was a sobering reminder that time can change things, and not always for the better.
Let's start with the Bun Rieu and Bun Bo Hue. These dishes, once brimming with bold, vibrant flavors, were now shadows of their former selves. Bland, uninspired, and utterly forgettable. The salted fried chicken, which should have been a highlight, was under-seasoned and lackluster. Even the fried rice, a dish that's hard to mess up, managed to disappoint.
Service was another sore point. Gone was the warmth and attentiveness we once knew. Instead, we were met with indifference that only amplified the mediocrity of the food. It’s disheartening to see a place you’ve held dear decline so noticeably.
Co Do used to be a staple, a go-to for comfort and quality. Now, it feels like a relic of better times, unable to keep up with the expectations it once set. It’s a tough pill to swallow, but after this experience, we won’t be coming back anytime soon. Sometimes, the search for great Vietnamese food leads you to places you never expected, and sometimes, it takes you away from the places...
Read moreCố Đô has always been my usual go to. The food was yum but I didn't like the service from just 1 particular staff, he was mid 30, 40 ish, curly hair and with glasses on. Yesterday I went there with a table of 7, we just sat down then 2 minutes after he rushed us to order. I told him we weren't ready, may we had 5 minutes or we would call him when we were ready. This is the SECOND TIME, the previous time I went there with the same group, he was the one who served us with the same attitude. Then he came back again to rush us to order, he leaned his body on one of our friend's chair and his face could tell it all, it was like "Please hurry up", my friend just roughly order just so he could go. If we were there late (almost closing time), with a large group, I do understabd that he may need to rush since the kitchen closes soon. But the thing was, we were there at 7:45, they close at 10, we were so so irritating by the way he talked and the way he served. It was my friend's birthday yesterday so I didn't want to ruin her moment. If I had another chance, I'd have changed another staffs, the rest...
