Combi Elwood — Restaurant in Melbourne

What’s usually a great experience, fell well below par today - to which I am now writing this review. Placed my order at the counter and was told there would be a 15 min wait. To be fair - they were super busy and slammed but what ensued was just a really poor customer experience.

My partner received his coffee within 5 minutes, however my smoothie was no where to be seen. After our food arriving after 30 minutes, we asked one of the staff whether my smoothie was coming. Alas, she told me that she would check and came back to tell me that she would put the order through but I would have to pay at the front. I showed her that I had in fact already paid for it, but it had not been delivered. She advised she would check with the front and come back. However she did not come back. We finished our meals, and had to run, we checked it with the guy making the smoothies and it had been put at the back of the queue of orders with another 5 smoothies ahead of it. I requested a refund which the staff were forthcoming with, but that took its time too, and was short changed with too.

At no stage was it acknowledged that it was forgotten, but assumed I ordered it late.

Will be a while till I return to this...

What we had:

Summer special virgin Bloody Mary Shack smoothie is a must try, it’s not too spicy but very very refreshing to drink this on a hot summer day.

Mango shack smoothie is very filling and tasty and all their smoothies have nut milk.

Shrooms on toast is perfect for mushroom lovers, with the whipped feta was amazing on the toast and the balsamic reduced sauce was very fresh and yum. Highly recommend

Peanut butter açai bowl was very decadent and delicious loaded with so much of fruits and berries and generous serving of peanut butter. Must try.

They are very busy on weekends and we noticed it is a locals’ favourite spot for smoothies. And after trying their smoothies, I can see why. The service is prompt and the staff are all so welcoming and friendly folks.

The cafe itself has a very Byron bay charm since they originated there. And you will have a good time here.

I can’t wait to go back to try more of their...

Combi used to be really good. I'm not sure what happened. At the weekend I paid almost $27 for 2 drinks. A number of people who ordered after I did received their orders first, and so I queued again to enquire about the order. The person serving saw me line up again and honestly if they were good as hospitality customer service, they'd have gone to check where my order was without me having to ask. When I asked, they acted like they weren't aware i had been waiting much longer than I should have been (25 minutes for 2 drinks & there were only 4 people waiting for orders before me). So they either aren't paying attention or they're not very up to speed with takeaway. Anyway when I finally received the order, there was no acknowledgement of the wait and to top it off, the drink was so messy all around the lid and outside of the cup - they didn't even bother cleaning it so it made a mess in my car and I had to clean it myself. For $27 you kind of just expect better. My recommendation is go elsewhere to a place that provides the products & service to match the prices...
