How times change! A hipster cafe in Caulfield North! Kale comes three ways: wilted, baby or massaged. And quinoa abounds. And yes! there is smashed avocado. The food is very pretty. A hot chocolate comes in a mug with a skewer of three toasted marshmallows. Very Instagrammable. And I asked for extra strong, which can often also mean extra sweet and here it didn't. Big upvote for that. The porridge is fully decorated with such things as slices of dried apple and pear, artistically distributed, but for me the addition of quinoa to porridge isn't a benefit. It takes away from the glorious glutinous sweetness of the oats. The coffee is clearly standout (I don't drink coffee so can't comment personally) because the entire time I was there a constant procession pouring through the door for takeaway. There are plenty of other take away coffee options around here, so this says a lot. The brunch menu is heavily eggy. Again, not my thing so I had limited options. But the menu changes every month, so maybe next month there were be more non-egg options and a porridge with no quinoa! Have to also comment that the service was rather inattentive. Again, benefit of the doubt: they were flat out busy on a cold Saturday morning and they haven't been open that long. Could just be teething problems? Will I go back? Probably, but not until next month. Unless I want a blast of hot choc with...
Read moreHad a really bad experience getting takeaway coffee. I ordered a long black and a flat white. When I went to my car, I realised there was spillage coming from the long black and had then realised the lid wasn’t sealed on properly. I tried to seal it properly but it would not latch on and because of this it had ended up spilling in my car and over my finger (the coffee was burning hot by the way and I had not asked for it to be extra hot). I then realised it wasn’t closing because it was double cups (it would not have needed double cups of it were the correct temperature). I then went back in the store to let them know I needed ice as my finger got burnt from them not sealing the coffee cup properly, and that it had spilled over my car seats. The lady I spoke to then proceeded to laugh and smile as I was explaining what had happened, and said “I’m sorry but there isn’t really anything I can do”.
After getting the ice and going to drink my flat white, I realised it seemed quite light so I took the lid off and saw about a quarter of it was filled with froth. I didn’t order a latte, I ordered a flat white so there would be minimal froth.
Overall very unhappy with the experience and definitely will not be...
Read moreIn reflection, I have decided to give Common Room a single star, from just one person on the team here.
Admittedly it is not fair to the team however, it can take one person to ruin - what originally a good experience! AND HE DID! Also won’t be back here again, further I will tell everyone and will post this experience other customer review sites.
My experience from the time I walked in was warm, ordered a coffee, a southern fried chicken burger and, after that, ordered another coffee.
Only 5 minutes upon receiving my second coffee, I was then presented with my bill - delivered by “Max G”.
He was not friendly, didn’t make eye contact, was short in delivering a point, “it is policy that you are only able to have a table for 45 minutes”. I’m a paying customer who was there for just over an hour and 15 min. I was NEVER told there was a 45 minute time on the tables. So you can imagine my surprise - it was news to me! I didn’t feel welcome after that, and I will NOT BE BACK!
I’m nearly 50 and have NOT been treated so rudely in a very long time - especially by a 20’something who doesn’t know what...
