Tucked away on Pasco Vale Road in Glenroy, Dairy Queen is one of those rare gems that brings a sense of nostalgia the moment you arrive. With its retro signage, no-fuss layout, and warm customer service, this place has been a local favourite for decades—and it’s easy to see why.
Dairy Queen isn’t about flashy trends or Instagrammable interiors. It’s about old-school quality and heartwarming consistency. The menu features a range of classic fast-food favourites—burgers, fish and chips, souvlakis, hot dogs, and of course, their signature soft serve. While the decor might feel like a throwback, the flavours are timeless.
What stands out most is the generosity of the servings. Whether you’re getting a hearty burger with the lot or a towering cone of vanilla soft serve, the portions are more than satisfying. It’s the kind of place where you definitely get your money’s worth. The chips are perfectly golden and crisp, never stingy, and often served with a smile and a side of old-fashioned banter.
Their fish and chips are especially popular—lightly battered, tender inside, and served with a mountain of chips. The burgers have that classic Aussie takeaway style—juicy, saucy, with just the right amount of messiness. And if you’ve got a sweet tooth, their sundaes and soft serve cones will hit the spot, especially on a warm day.
One of the things that makes Dairy Queen special is its loyal customer base. Locals have been coming here for years—some even since childhood—and the friendly, familiar faces behind the counter only add to the charm. It’s the kind of place where service feels personal and unpretentious.
In a time when many food spots chase trends, Dairy Queen proudly stays true to its roots. If you’re after a generous meal, a dose of nostalgia, and genuine old-school service, this Glenroy classic is well...
Read moreMy partner and I usually go to this Cafe and it has been a nice place to have a coffee, however, I have never been treated so rudely like I did today. I had some dietary requirements needed with a dish and the Indian lady who served us at the registers just denied any of my requests saying 'all our dishes are a set menu and we cannot change anything. I have been working here for 17 years and no one but the owner can change a dish'. I was asking for the bacon in the dish to be changed to mushrooms, and I have had no problems having this change done in the past. The lady that served us last week was able to placed the order for the eggs Benedict as usual but put the bacon from mine to my partners plate and served mushrooms as requested on mine with the extra charge for mushrooms. However this indian woman was just so rude and rigid; not providing a solution other than just constantly saying 'you can't do that'. It was only when another lady stepped in and placed the order on the register that this issue was resolved. Furthermore, as we were having our drinks, my partner and I were told to move tables as a 'special customer' was going to appear and needed the table we were sitting on for easy access. So we moved aside to the table next to us only to see the lady who told us to move sit there herself and eat her lunch! I don't know if everyone was having a bad day just this day but It really felt like we were being discriminated against which is so sad as we have been loyal customers of this cafe way before they even...
Read moreCame in when it was kind of quiet, ordered one medium cap with sugar and stood to the side to wait. I kept waiting, as people who ordered after me got their orders (some of them bigger and with more coffees than mine). It wasn't until my girlfriend said something about this that they overheard, that they finally turned to me and noticed I'd been waiting there the whole time. That's when the person who served me asked the baristas where my coffee was. They couldn't find it at first, but when they found it, went to making it right away. Despite the quick correction, it felt like I was just being dismissed. The attitude showed they didn't really care how long I was waiting, and I feel like I could have been standing there for 20 minutes without anyone noticing.
As a coffee shop worker, I understand that it's impossible to care about every single customer that comes into your store, but also that it's important to follow through with customers properly. Even if you don't care, it's good customer service to know that, when you make a mistake, you should earnestly be trying to remedy the situation and make sure they leave with a good experience, spoken from personal experience as a server. Treating a customer normally after a mistake shows a lack of care and self-accountability.
Having said all that, the fruits in the fruit salad were very fresh and a good pick. The coffee was alright, too. Good for your day to day but...
