Darae Cafe — Restaurant in Melbourne

I don’t know what all these reviews are about friendly staff because we had the complete opposite experience. I’m in shock at how rude the customer service was considering the rating of this place. Although the trainee was nice and had no control over her coworker’s behaviour and how bluntly rude she was. We had to wait a while for her to take our order and when we asked what was in one of the meals she went to pick up the menu and tell us to read it and then realised that there was no description under the item and then said that she doesn’t know and and complained to us why we couldn’t look it up on google and she would have to go ask the kitchen. I can’t even begin to describe her tone of voice and how much she rolled her eyes. She wasn’t even trying to hide how rude she was being, we might as well have been in karen’s diner at least that would have been a more fun experience and we would have gotten our food. There were too many what could have been simple conversations that she turned into snapping at us, that there are too many to list. I can’t even rate the food as I didn’t get to eat any after all that as we were there for an hour waiting for them to smash some ago on some bread. They ended up getting my order wrong after an hour of waiting and my friend’s break was over so we just had to leave without eating anything. Their main customer base is people coming for lunch on their breaks and there were other people leaving while we were there complaining how their break is over and don’t have time to eat the food that they were waiting for. A lady was waiting approx 30 mins for two coffees...

Update Jan 2023:

They are still as good as ever, and they now have more breakfast options, the classic and the Korean one. Pretty hard to choose as they all sound delicious! Keep up the good work, Darae! We are the ones cheering and dancing on the side of the road! (Tour de France style!)

Heard a lot of positive things about this newish cafè, but I haven't really got a chance to visit despite the location right in my regular morning ride route. My 'work days' rides usually finished before they even opened. Finally got a chance to visit today with my daughter. She had a 'K-Toast' with milkshake, and I had the 'Open Korean salad with spicy pork' and, of course, double-shot espresso. They both are absolutely perfect. Love the taste and the price was very affordable too. What even better than the food was the service and the smile. It is super hard these days to find such a marvellous and friendly service. Everything about this cafè is a positive, and we will most definitely be back for more! Keep up...
