Degani Southland — Restaurant in Melbourne

I honestly don’t know how this place is up and running still. The pictures on the menu looked absolutely delicious so when I went up to the counter, I ordered one of the pictures but no one could tell me what that picture was on the menu. I finally worked it out and ordered that. But when it came out, the chef had no idea what was meant to be on it. I got something completely different. It was cold and tasteless. I explained to the person working that I missing half my ingredients and all he said was sorry. He came back 10 minutes later with the missing ingredients, but it was already too late. He proceeded to tell me that the menu was new and that’s why they didn’t know what the picture was, and what the chef should’ve put on the plate. To me, that just speaks volume. Very lovely, friendly, accommodating staff – we felt very welcome.

I ordered Loaded Potato Gems from the Degani app, but they said their store didn't have that particular item on the menu. They asked what I'd like instead, and I asked if they could prepare loaded chips instead. They accommodated my requests and the lovely chef made the most perfect loaded fries I've had – generous serving size; perfectly fresh, crispy chips; loads of bacon, cheese, and BBQ/aoili sauce – and all served piping hot.

My friend ordered the Seasoned Wedges, which were also generously sized, and served steaming hot with sides of sour cream and sweet chili sauce.

Degani Southland. The attitude is appalling from the owner. The fruit frappe is not real fruit and when I questioned it, she added more syrup which made no difference to the watered down taste.

Secondly, the Belgian waffles that’s advertised to come with fresh fruit, after enquiring, the waitress said it doesn’t come with fruit. When speaking to the manager, she apologised saying that they ran out…would have helped if they told me when placing the order and paying in full.

The entire experience sucked, especially because I recommended it...
