Derrimut Charcoal Chicken & Kebab — Restaurant in Melbourne

This used to be one of my favourite spots, but sadly, my most recent visit will likely be my last. It feels like there may have been a change in ownership or management, as the quality and service have noticeably declined.

I placed an online order for pickup—half a chicken, chips, and salad. When I arrived and gave my name, the staff seemed confused and had no idea what I was there for, even after I showed them my order confirmation. Eventually, they found the order, which had already been prepared. However, I was shocked when an older staff member raised her voice at me, saying, “Why you no say? Why you order online for?”—completely uncalled for and incredibly unprofessional, especially in a customer-facing role.

To make matters worse, the food was disappointing. The chicken skin was burnt, and the meat was so dry it was inedible—especially the thigh, which is usually the juiciest part. The chips were decent, but the salad didn’t taste fresh and ended up in the bin.

I understand that mistakes happen, and even food quality can vary occasionally. But the way I was spoken to is what really left a bad impression. I choose to order online because it’s convenient and avoids miscommunication—this experience completely undermined that.

Ordered the Half chicken and chips with greek salad, and a mixed HSP.

The food is good value for the price, no major complaints about anything just me being overly specific for info.

Chicken was slightly dry but I've come to expect that from most shops unless you got it fresh off the grill. The gravy that you can purchase for extra was thin, and not super strong. Just my preference of preferring thicker and more meaty tasting gravies. Greek salad was nothing out of the ordinary, doesn't blow you away but tastes like you'd expect one to. Chips were nice and thick, fluffy with some crunch and salted well. The HSP was good, the chicken and lamb is nice. The lamb is not like other places I've had but still does well.

Overall pretty happy with the food, and again paid about $35 for everything (for two people) so good price and...

I got a lamb HSP and it arrived WITH cheese when I do not eat cheese & no where in my order did I mention cheese My male coworker got a mixed kebab which turned out SOGGY as I swapped with him due to cheese being in my HSP, it was not wrapped well at all and it was just a mess trying to eat it My female coworker got a mixed meal which had little to no dips with it all being in alll over the place in the container, and there was little meat only in a big container.

Overall experience was TERRIBLE and I do NOT recommend eating here ever again!
