After the unfortunate negative review a month or two ago ( scroll down) we thought to give this business another chance. 'Locals supporting local businesses' so they say.

It is with great disappointment that this was another let down.

When we rocked up for brekkie this morning we were told to choose a table outside and that there is table service, 'she would be with us in a few moments'. That's the last we saw of the waitress.

In the ten minutes we sat there a total of four staff members walked directly past us. They ordered food on the table next to us, they served two lots of coffees on two other tables around us. One person came with an ipad for a table opposite us to pay.... no single staff member looked around them. Each one of them had their blinkers up and walked past all the tables, including our's.

What a disappointment guys. We decided to walk out. What is going on guys? It wasn't busy as we rocked up after the brekkie rush. Several tables empty outside.

You have three staff around, why is it so difficult for one of then to come around to check on all tables? We went to another small business in the area and spent $80 on brekkie, which we could have spent at your place.

Adding this experience to my previous two poor takeaway experiences below don't make me feel like wanting to come back. Sorry guys - you had your chances.

My recommendation is to buy your food directly from the cafe itself rather than delivery. We decided on delivery last night but unfortunately the food was not good.

Calamari salad tasted like it came directly out of the freezer. Some pieces were luke warm ( taste like microwaved) other were cold, we ended up throwing it out. There is approx. $25 gone to waste

This happened several times before a while ago but decided to give it a go once more. Unfortunately the result was the same: not good.

Getting the food ourselves and pick it up seemed fine, dining in has been good. Coffees have been good it's just their delivery service that lets them down in...

Absolutely love this local gem! Edithvale General Store isn’t just a café – it’s a community hub, a daily go-to, and a place that feels like home. The coffee is consistently excellent, and the service is second to none – a real credit to the whole team.

Special shoutout to Maddi, whose warm smile and upbeat energy light up the place every day. She makes every customer feel genuinely welcome, and her service is always spot on. Holly, our barista supreme, delivers beautifully made coffee with perfect coffee art – every single cup is a work of art (and delicious too!). And then there’s Tash, who never misses a beat – her attention to detail is incredible, and she always manages to squeeze in a lovely chat that brightens your morning.

Huge compliments to Tom for putting together such an amazing team – they’ve created a place that not only runs smoothly, but also radiates good vibes. It’s also fantastic to see so many past team members (Breeze, Aldana, Mariana, Mon and Sarah ) moving on to full-time roles – a testament to the culture here and their dedication to supporting great people.

Through the tough days of COVID lockdowns, this café was a lifeline – a place of comfort, connection, and routine for so many of us. Thank you for being there for your loyal locals then, and thank you for continuing to do what you do now – you’re the heart...

What does make a place really special?

I just had to ponder this question on a Sunday morning, sipping my 3rd, perfect temperature Mocha (Why Not!). Sitting outside the Edithvale General Store in the glorious Melbourne sunshine, The answer, it turns out, is really quite simple.

They LOVE what they do.

It is so evident it permeates through the food, the coffee and the wonderfully friendly neighbourhood service. I'm here at smash o'clock and the crew serving, cooking and supporting are all full of smiles and seem genuinely happy to be at work on a Sunday morning. This is the place I long to be on every street corner I live on forever more. I had coffee that would make Monday morning jealous. The flavour of the food was delightful. I had the Avo' Smash with grilled watermelon. I forgot about the watermelon until it exploded in my mouth and I actually giggled out loud. I did not want to leave. I wanted to stay so present and connected to this perfect Sunday morning experience I had to have another Mocha inside and just watch the happiest crew I have seen since forever get on doing what they love. Please don't change, grow or try to be anything else. In a strange land, at a strange time in my life, I found heaven on a street corner in Edithvale. Thank you Crew for...

Around the corner from my grandparents' home in Elsie Grove, this was the milk bar where I bought Sunnyboys or Whizz Fizz in the 1970s-80s, and ice creams on a hot day. A few years ago, two fellas came into Barista Supplies to get risers and equipment for a new café, and we worked out it was this same time forgotten milk bar now being converted into a café. Gets done often. But also not always gets done well. Both times my son has played soccer down hemmthis way, I HAD to drop in and see my old haunt. And gee, I think it's incredible! The place is vibrant, humming with the activity of happy loyal locals. The staff are upbeat, very friendly and eager to serve, and the welcoming vibe is relaxing and uplifting all at once. The coffee is well executed, the food and other drinks equally impressive. There's no secret to why it's so busy. What a brilliant local to have. If every suburb had one as good as this, the happiness index would be through the roof. Awesome job!
