We absolutely adored our evening at Farro Hawthorn.
The vegan menu is en pointe! Dare I say comparable to Gigi’s Pizzeria in Sydney’s Newtown or even Purezza in the borough of Camden in London? I’d say YES! Especially if you need to pick a place that ticks all the boxes for other diners in your party who aren’t vegan. Which, for me, takes the stress away from having to choose restaurants for groups, as I’m often the one choosing the place. Thanks, Farro!
We had the vegan Funghi and Ananas (yes, we love pineapple on a pizza… so maybe you can’t read on and trust a word I’m typing). They were both really well made and structured perfectly. Topping, sauce, and base ratio were so scrumptious, and clearly, a lot of time and thought went into the execution of the menu from all departments.
Also, spelt sourdough! YES! Wholesome and absolutely delicious… so it’s perfectly suitable for those who are more carb-conscious.
We couldn’t go past the vegan Nutella calzone even though we were already very sated. Yum, yum, yum!
The rest of the family had Tagliatelle Lamb Ragu, Gnocchi Mushroom Ragu, Ortolana pizzas, and a side of Rucola. They were all really satisfied all around.
Each dish is around $25-$30, so it’s not a cheap eats place but rather a conscious and thoughtful meal that truly showcases the ingredients and gives worth to you taking time to go out and give patronage to them. I can see why they have loads of venues around Melbourne.
The ambiance was a nice balance of chic, cozy trattoria and casual upmarket dining, which brought together a lovely blend of people—from families to newly dating couples to mates having a Sunday pizza and cocktails. There was a relaxed yet exciting buzz in the air. Totally good vibes!
Tonight, we dined with my husband’s family, a total of seven, including our toddler. We were really well looked after by both Florence and Aria, who were working FOH.
There was a feeling of nostalgia for his parents, as they felt like they were with the kids again at a fond favorite restaurant that is no longer around. Tonight, they felt a comfortable attachment to what is hopefully now a newfound family gathering place.
Online booking was clear and super easy to navigate, and highchairs were immediately available. The menus are all available online to peruse, and alternate dietary menus are readily available when dining in as well.
If you’ve made it this far into the review… Go! Bring a date… bring your fam… bring a mate or just go solo and have a nice time! It’s worth it, and...

REVIEW: Really affordable in a big group of people. Pistachio Burrata was a refreshing way to start the meal while the crocchette started lining our stomach. One notable thing I would've liked to see is leopard spotting on the pizza. From their instagram, it looks like it can be done on the sourdough they use. However our pizza came out cooked but lacking the crisp and the brown colour. Perhaps the temperature wasn't high enough? But it was okay.
Would've also liked to seen more prosciutto in the crocchette and on the prosciutto pizza. Perhaps something more aged, to get that really salty flavourful taste as well. Overall, the Farro's unique spelt grain didn't have a noticeable impact on my bloating or digestion compared to normal pizza. For others who are GF, Farro's menu and alternatives may prove life changing.
Service was really friendly. The waitress came by and made sure we were enjoying our food and everything was okay. Wasn't a fan how there was an additional 10%...
Read moreI recently dined at this Italian Restaurant and tried several dishes, including the Pistachio Burrata, Crocchette, Prosciutto Pizza with extra buffalo mozzarella, Tagliatelle Lamb Ragu, and Gnocchi Pistachio Pesto. Overall, I thought the food was quite good.
The Pistachio Burrata was a standout dish for me. The creamy cheese was perfectly complemented by the subtle pistachio flavor and the dish was beautifully presented. The Crocchette was also enjoyable - crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, with a savory filling.
The Prosciutto Pizza with extra buffalo mozzarella was delicious, with a crispy crust and generous amounts of cheese and prosciutto. The Tagliatelle Lamb Ragu was hearty and satisfying, with tender lamb and a rich tomato-based sauce. The Gnocchi Pistachio Pesto was also tasty, with a nutty and slightly sweet pesto sauce that paired well with the soft gnocchi.
One thing that stood out to me during my dining experience was the service - it was consistently friendly, attentive, and accommodating. Our server was knowledgeable about the menu and made excellent recommendations, and the rest of the staff were also polite and helpful.
Overall, I would definitely recommend this Italian restaurant. The quality of the food was high, and the service was exceptional. Whether you're looking for a cozy dinner for two or a group gathering, this restaurant is definitely worth...
