I tried Fat Boy Thai Kitchen because I found it in the Entertainment Book (which makes me try new places I might not otherwise go to). It's quite small inside, so I'd definitely make a booking as there were a couple of bigger parties seated. There is an upstairs section, but I don't know how big it is up there. One thing I loved was that you couldn't see into the kitchen. I don't love that about restaurants, and was happy not to be able to look in.
The menu doesn't stand out from other Thai restaurants. I got my usual Chicken Curry Puffs and my Chicken Fried Rice. The curry puffs were nice, but not outstanding. The fried rice was good, but also nothing more amazing than elsewhere.
When the entrees came out, the waitress didn't ask who ordered what. She just put things down in front of all of the wrong people. It came out in a good time frame, but that was a little "unprofessional" if I'm going to be picky. The staff were friendly though, and very accommodating when it came to menu modifications. They got it all right and that's a big plus with me.
The only other slight negative was that because the restaurant is quite small, when people wait for their take out orders, they almost stand on top of your table waiting. It's kind of awkward for both them and the diners, but at least some didn't have to wait too long.
Overall, I'd recommend Fat Boy Kitchen if you're in the area. It's a good half hour drive for me, so I wouldn't visit again necessarily unless I was in the area (and parking can be really bad), but it's well priced, reasonable and friendly...
Read moreWe got take away from Fat Boy. I was really keen for Sohle Massaman Curry and it was average. Unfortunately the meat was chunky which was great but it was really dry and it certainly wasn't marinated in the curry sauce which was ok flavour wise
Pad See Ew with extra chilli and chicken which was really tasty and spicy whoa!! Woo hoo haha.
The Roti bread was good but wee definitely needed more sauce as it was a bit dry otherwise and the massaman curry sauce was... Mmnn.
The Vegetarian curry puffs were excellent, so much so if that's all we ordered I would have been a very happy man!
The gai satay chicken skewers were good without being memorable.
Overall this was a good meal but I'd have reservations about getting take away again.
Previous review August 2018 My partner and I had dinner here last night. The service was really nice from the waitresses. The restaurant has an upstairs area which was great as we sat up there and it was much quieter than downstairs.
For entree we ordered some chicken puffs which were tasty but I suspect they were frozen.
The roti bread was absolutely delicious, hot steamy and the peanut sauce... wow!! If it was bottled I’d buy it hahahaha
The massaman curry sauce was really tasty but the chunky pieces of beef were quite hard and obviously not cooked w the curry. Still very good and I really enjoyed the sweet potato in the dish.
The Khee Mao (thick rice noodle dish) w chicken was good and the serving sizes were quite generous.
Overall this was a really good meal w reasonable prices for both the food and drinks. Definitely...
Read moreForgot we’d come here before so made the mistake of returning! Look the venue is very cramped so isn’t the greatest place given soaring case numbers. Service wise it hasn’t exactly improved and I can’t believe as a Thai restaurant they don’t have fresh coconuts! The food was however fine other than the massaman beef which unfortunately was my dish and had quite poor quality meat so I pretty much just poured the sauce over my rice and called it a day
Original review My brother in law recently moved to Hawthorn so we chose Fat Boy Thai for family dinner. I knew we were in for good food having visited the Windsor sister restaurant but what I couldn’t anticipate was the very clumsy service. Unfortunately the staff struggled to understand us which didn’t help.
We ordered spring rolls and two serves of chicken skewers to start so there was enough for all of us. Only one of the skewers arrived (the second appearing midway through our mains after I followed up) but we also got one of our mains, the green curry and our two serves of rice. We had ordered coconut rice and got regular so that was sent back.
By the time the correct rice arrived which was actually some time later (surprising as I assume it’s all in a big pot somewhere) the curry was near cold. Highlights however were a very delicious pad Thai and an equally impressive chicken cashew nut which had an extremely flavoursome sauce. It’s a shame the experience was lessened by the...
