If you’ve ever studied Latin, you’ll know that Felix Culpa is a phrase that refers to an error with happy consequences.

I personally was never one for Latin, but I was into coffee, and so I have taken the time to learn all about Felix Culpa in Reservoir. It’s the latest café in this northern suburb that was created by Danny Lam and Sharad Perera. True to the Felix Culpa name, the pair decided to open a café together, after careers in non hospo industries. It was the case of their fortune emerging as a consequence of both leaving their careers in real estate and retail. The transition was calculated though, with Danny noticing a growing trend for coffee establishments in Northcote and Thornbury, and thought Reservoir was the rising star for the next wave of café in the north.

Stepping into Felix Culpa is akin to entering a showroom, with every detail exceptionally clean and bright, from the island espresso bench to the coffee in the hopper.

Beans are sourced from Symmetry Coffee Roasters, with the house blend offering a butterscotch like latte; and the washed Ethiopian Nansebo presenting a black coffee that was reminiscent of musk sticks with hints of strawberry.

This infinitely charming coffee shop is without a shroud of doubt,the absolute pinnacle of sublime service and coffee making,the food is profoundly delicious and not to mention the great staff who are so friendly and accommodating which in essence is conducive in enhancing an already amazing experience in coming to this amazing shop,which also aids the business to achieve both great success and sustain longevity. My friend and I enjoyed having brunch here! The place has a nice feel about it. The staff greeted us with a smile and we were kindly asked, if we didn't mind, to sit at the counter while we waited for a table and the food we ordered, as the place was quite full. They have a lovely seating area out the back and some seating outside, out front, but it was too cold to sit outside! The mocha and hot chocolate were wonderful and even though there wasn't a huge range of food to choose from, it is adequate for a breakfast, brunch or light lunch.
