I have been going to this cafe for a number of years and leaving bike here. Today some nice guy suggested i dont leave my bike tucked behind table i am sitting at as they should be locked nearby at council supplied spot.
This pressure tactic may actually be against the law as Victorian parking laws note you can park your bike anywhere as long as it is safe and not in another's way (conditions met).
I have actually done this in the past as suggested which has resulted in recent bike theft for myself and my child despite excellent locks. While asking if i could leave bike there which was not inthe way of anyone including staff or other patrons with empty tables nearby this muppet proceeded to parrot the same spiel about council and bike locks appearing to be stuck in some sort of brain dysfunction short circuit.
Would it have hurt anyone to leave a bike in view at an outdoors table for a few minutes. What a thuggish lout and what terrible customer service.
The service in general here can be varied...expect queues. The atmosphere itself is fine and offers some protection from the elements even outside as the owner seems to care.
Unfortunately when you experience prats like this man intimidating patrons while stuck in a feedback loop of rigid thinking unable to offer any flexible consideration or actual cognitive input from their brain to what exits their mouth interacting with customers it is a solid one star effort and will not be returning personally or with others. Is this the owners son as I note others complaining of threatening hostile attitude.
Really sad as the owners are generally lovely people despite this rotten apple.
Immediately following thuglife's advice I arranged for friends and family to meet elsewhere where we parked our bikes without harassment and enjoyed each others company and coffee a little...

For a family owned cafe, didn't feel family oriented as the owner was too business driven to hear what I had to say and didn't do anything about it Walked away feeling disappointed
Visited my local Cafe on Sunday, pre ordered a cheese tomato toastie and a coffee got there paid $18 ! and saw a deal on the cabinet ham cheese tomato toast and coffee for $15 asked how come I didn't get the deal, said because I ordered it without ham Mentioned that I can't eat ham- no care for one's who are vegetarian or religious reasons got charged for making a new sandwich when it should be made to cater to everyone and a Sunday surcharge!
I popped in quickly to grab a toastie so why am I paying 10% surcharge to cover your staff wages if I wasn't sitting there. It's take away
He was too concerned about money and got 2 charges off me, I spoke to him about it again and didn't care even though their restaurant is full
Sunday surcharge should not be for take away....
Read moreWent for the Father’s Day breakfast and booked well ahead of time. When we got there, we had a bad impression to begin with. A waitress that had a very sour look on her face, no welcome or smile as we walked in the door, just bluntly told us our table had people on it and were told to stand outside for 15mins until our table was ready. Really defeats the purpose of booking.
We ordered the blueberry waffles which were so stale and dry they were completely inedible, even with all the maple syrup that came with them! They were quite obviously not cooked fresh. We asked the waitress politely about getting a different meal cooked instead due to it being stale and dry. The waitress then spoke to the owner and came back to inform us that “we have had 20 orders of the waffles today and nobody has complained so they are not stale and they are “fresh out of the packet”… really fresh then..! They told us that if we wanted something else, we’d have to pay for it. No refund or apology offered. VERY poor service! And the owner couldn’t even come and talk to us himself. Will not be recommending...
