For heavens steaks, as far as the good ol aussie steak sanga goes , it was good ! why only good you ask ? & ive always given benefit of the doubt where a good steak is concerned. & when its done right it is absolute perfection. after visiting this establishment 3-4 times of which the the product was consistent in its form , having said that the service & time taken to produce the steak sandwich was outstanding. the choices of different fillings & condiments vast with a fantastic Italian twist & the steak itself was a good cut & quite tender to the bite. about as good as you can get for a fast cook however there was still a slight disappointment as there was something missing & it wasn't too difficult to work it out as i reminisced about the steak sanga's you would get at the local rodeos & farm n field days out in the country. but firstly the steak lacked seasoning & when talk about seasoning i mean a good shake of pepper n salt , every Great steak starts with a dose of seasoning, even with the high flavour of the fillings & the chilli sauce the steak still did not shine through for me ,there no rocket science involved here & we are talking about making the STEAK the star of the show so why not give the steak the love & attention it deserves ?. secondly. those steaks although they were cooked they were more on the semi broiled & yes consistently broiled the same over a course of four to five weeks as i noticed the flat gas hotplate style cooker..so what was missing was that beautiful slightly smoky char you get from a flame grill . that would take these steaks from good to the next level . & the cooking time difference would be negligible. but it would elevate this good steak sandwich to the BEST steak sandwich in Melbourne .
& maybe toast the bread...

The two chefs behind the counter are nothing short of artists. With just a handful of humble ingredients, they’ve created a culinary Mona Lisa. Honestly, these sandwiches belong in the Louvre, not just on a lunch menu.
Fresh produce. Perfect balance. Masterful cooking. Spot-on seasoning. This is the kind of place that would drive Gordon Ramsay mad—not because of the food, but because he's stuck in Hell’s Kitchen and can’t taste a bite of Heaven.
I lived in Clayton for two years and visited this place religiously. I’ve recommended it to every friend I know, and not a single one has escaped its spell. Now that I’ve moved away, I still find myself craving that unmistakable taste...
To the chefs, and to whoever owns this heavenly corner of the earth: There’s a place for you...
Read moreI’ve been wanting to visit this venue for sometime now and we finally made it in for lunch on a Saturday. The first thing I noticed was how much seating there was and that there were other families eating too. It’s a very casual venue and you need to order at the til.
The owner Paul and his staff member working were both very friendly! We sat outside in the spacious courtyard, where kids could quite easily stretch their legs and not be on top of the table next to yours. We were told the Italian Classic Double is the most popular, but opted to try the Clayton Classic (and Double) this visit. We ordered bacon & egg sandwich for the kids.
Despite a queue before us, our meals were prompt. The steak was tender and delicious! Even Esther enjoyed eating some. Every element in the sanga was delicious! This place is definitely worth checking out. We will be returning soon to try their...
