I have been to Aangan Footscray the original shop back in 2013 and was amazed by their flavoursome Punjabi Butter Chicken, the best I've had in Melbourne. Since then whenever I wanted to try I would drive all the way from eastern suburbs. Was happy seeing Aangan express in Hawthorn but for some reason woh feeling Nahi aa Rahi thi 😂🤣😂 And finally thanks to the Management for setting up this establishment in Clayton. Upon entering this place the warmth n feeling is amazing, I went around 10pm last Saturday and it felt I was in a banquet hall for an Indian wedding back in India, coz everything seemed too big for an Indian restaurant here in Melbourne whether it be crowd, menu, drink options, decor, music..... We were a group of three ordered Chicken Malai tikka, Punjabi Butter Chicken, Balti Paneer, Butter Naans, coke and a cocktail 'SHARABI CHAI' 🍻🍻🍻 Yes we were hungry and service was fast too, looking at how busy that place was, our starters came withing 10 mins OMG the look of the charcoal chicken tikka pieces drooling in cheese looked mouthwatering. Initially I thought how wud cheese on chicken tikka taste as was expecting Malai/cream, but first bite in and this dish secured it's place as a memory and on my future orders, the flavours are too good and balanced and that cheese complimented everything on that plate. Then came the main course and I think 6 years down the line I have again found the best butter chicken that too from the same brand 'Aangan'. The tanginess, spices, tenderness of chicken, smoky flavour, consistency of gravy, Not sweet as Punjabis like it, quantity for a portion size. And Balti Paneer complimented our taste palate too, taking it to another level, the recipe seems to have been reinvented and it tasted owseome. Both were tomato based gravies, vibrant red in colour yet tasted so different. Name of cocktails are funny so tried SHARABI CHAI, it's basically long island tea but I won't be drinking cocktails from a house known to master it's food n curries 🙈🙈 It was a perfect dinner👌👌👌and I will surely be back. Thanks to Aangan team and to our very special Sumit Malhotra, the guy behind success of Aangan and spreading happiness since 2004, you are a really passionate foodie who loves to be in the kitchen.

Updated review: 0.5 stars - the half star is purely for the wait staff that were worked like slaves, nothing to do with the restaurant. This has been a never-ending saga of more problems created! Since 06/10, found out that despite three different people (myself, my mother and the decorator) confirming that 5pm is an acceptable time to pick up the decorations, the staff THREW THE DECORATIONS IN THE BIN! What kind of imbecile throws decorations and linen tablecloths? I have attempted to reach the incompetent manager and all I get is radio silence! I offered benefit of doubt, but what a joke! I am absolutely disgusted by the behaviour and will make sure I actively discourage EVERYONE AND ANYONE from ever going there as long as I live. So completely unprofessional and so ridiculously incompetent, I’d think I’m being pranked except for the financial costs and sheer stress of the day and every single day since. If you want peace of mind, avoid Aangan. If you want to boycott a manager taking advantage of waitstaff, avoid Aangan. If you don’t want an incompetent meal and untold miseries heaped on you, avoid Aangan. —————————————— Original review Total 1.5 stars Restaurant wedding reception Things that went well - food overall good - Catered for last minute dietaries (cashews and dairy in Indian cuisine) which was much appreciated - The wait staff that did arrive were polite and helpful despite being completely run OFF their feet Things that did not go well - The audio system was broken two days before the event, and no attempt to remedy or find alternatives was made - We brought our own systems - There was no video / presentation function - Bartender was hired and did not turn up - The bartender situation meant throughout the event, we mixed and served our own drinks - this one is the MOST upsetting to me - Tables were not all present for the decorator - Wait staff were scheduled to arrive 11:00, but had a single person only until 13:30 - To get a second staff member took 12 phone calls and requests per hour over that period - One entree item (pani puri) was never served - There were insufficient plates and bowls CONSTANTLY - The plates and bowls supplied were not washed properly

Myself and my friendship groups have been visiting this restaurant ever since it opened, and we have been there over 10 times, usually with pleasant experiences, friendly staff and delightful food. Tonight, my friends and I were utterly shocked with the service that we received due to the following: (a) Per the first picture - Inconsistent serving sizes - my friend and I had ordered the EXACT IDENTICAL dish of plain rice, to which he got a full bowl of rice in a bigger dish, whereas I got a smaller bowl, which had significantly less (around half of the rice) compared to his. How is it possible that for the exact same dish, it can be treated in two completely different ways???? (b) I requested to order jugs of Mango Lassi SEVERAL TIMES from the waiters/waitresses. However, knowing well that Aangan had downgraded from their traditional thick, creamy and nourishing mango lassis which we have enjoyed over our last 10+ visits to pop tops commonly found at local Indian grocery stores, the waitress pretended to go and ask the manager whether serving us jugs of lassi was possible, however it was to no avail. This was extremely deceitful and unsatisfactory to us as long-standing customers who have supported this restaurant since its birth. Per the second picture, you can see this joke of a mango lassi which my friend had ordered and received - nothing more than a pop-top style drink, fit for a 3 year old. What's worse is that it was exorbitantly priced at $6.50. This just doesn't sit well with me. Thanks for the memories Aangan, it was good while it lasted - however it's now goodbye and goodluck. I'll miss you.

This place is an avoid for me, in my view. Giving them one star because unfortunately 'ZERO' star option isn't available. At the table there were no plates or glasses, upon asking for water and spoons, it took 10 minutes to bring the water and spoons. Atleast the waiters did not have the courtesy to bring the starters or water for that matter unless upon telling. We ordered starters, red wine and food. Even after telling waiter to bring wine first they didn’t serve first. After eating half of food he served us wine. They served rice first instead of starters. Such a pathetic experience. After eating half of rice we found whole hair in it and carrots in rice is rotten. We talked to manager and she was telling like the hair could be of you; strange 😖. Then I said if it is our hair then how can it come out through the rice 🤷🏼♀️, It supposed to be upside only. Also we said that carrots in the rice was rotten and she replied that sometimes it happens that while cooking some vegetables burnt easily. How she tried to convince us like as we don’t know anything about cooking skills. Disgusting experience. Will never visit in future. A big 👎 to this restaurant. Never recommend to anyone.

The restaurant delivers decent Indian food. However, the pricing of the food for 'take away' orders is same as for 'Uber Eats Menu'. This means the 30%+ commission restaurant pays to Uber is not reimbursed to patrons walking in for take away orders. Neither is the quantity of serve sufficient for the price of the food. The overall dining experience for take away patrons is 30% too expensive and over-rated. Tried to discuss this subject with the outlet manager but the un-compromising attitude of the lady manager was simply obnoxious. Was a waste to walk in there for my evening. Certainly the restaurant does not deliver what it projects. Will not return to this restaurant and will not recommend anyone else for take away at least. Dine in customers did not look too happy either with the level of service. Slim experience this one. Especially for someone who owns and manages quality restaurants in BNE.

The word 'Aangan' had a new meaning when I first had the food at Aangan Footscray in 2017. But the whole idea was shattered for me after visiting Aangan Clayton. There is something going extremely wrong with the place. The monchow soup is disgusting, full of oil and red color. Dahi ke shole was uncooked, probably something wrong with how the inside curd masala was prepared. They replaced dahi ke shole with Paneer tikka on our request in which the only good thing was the paneer pieces. The chef insisted these foods are supposed to be that way! We had to give up and get out of the place to not fall sick and filled ourselves with food from food truck across the street. There was just one main waitress serving on the whole floor. We could occasionally see another waitress and a bar tender serving food to meet the demand. I had only one thought in mind - why do this to Aangan's name and reputation?
