I'm SO glad I found this delightful and delicious restaurant. I chose it to dine at for my birthday dinner last night and couldn't be more happy with my choice. It did not disappoint from the second we stepped foot inside, to the moment we left. After almost breaking out into fights for parking spaces in the adjacent car park, we eventually made it to the restaurant and was impressed right off the bat by the cute entryway, to the gorgeous interior decor, to the menu, to the friendly staff, to the food and to everything. The menu is quite varied. There are some great items to chose from in both hot and cold entrees and the main meals have a lot of options for both fish and meats and the dessert menu also has a few great options. Everyone loved their meals. The French Onion soup was divine, the salmon salad was HEAVENLY, the meats cooked perfectly, the vol-au-vent was super yum and the chocolate mousse was totally delicious and tasted home made (just missing a little bit of rum, lol). Based on how good the food was and the service and decor, we will definitely, definitely be back again and will recommend this to anyone that asks for suggestions. The only negative was the busy and tight spaced parking lot adjacent to them as it was beyond hectic, and the street parking fills up because of the movies and how the council has taken away so many parking spaces for outdoor dinning (infuriating), but if you come with plenty of time to find a spot,...

I was rather disappointed with the customer care given by someone who I presume has managerial/owner status in the restaurant. I was there for for lunch today and was sitting at a table where I got the full glare of the sun as reflected by cars parked outside the restaurant. When I first notified the waiter of this issue, he was very helpful in running outside and trying to lower the external blind - only to find that it was already lowered to the max. He reported back on that and I suggested that perhaps a piece of paper could be taped to one approximately 600mm square panel of the window - a panel that was on the lower left corner and should not have affected any other customer. The waiter had to ask permission from the lady manager/owner(??) and was given a short no for an answer. I could not believe that no explanation was offered as to why that could not be done, nor did she offer to move us to another table. I consider that pure uncaring arrogance. Little wonder that there were only about 4 tables (including our party) of guests during the time I was there. I will not be going there a second time. For the quality of food and the price they charge, I can find a plenty other restaurants with far...

Well, you can take the man out of the country, but never country out of the man… I lived two years in Brussels, and kinda get used to the “racist” attitude, but was not expected that Belgian/French staff will continue with such attitude in Melbourne. Common it’s 21st century, and I am paying money for the service…

Let me elaborate: I asked a waiter for the bathroom, he said: there is no bathroom, go next door woollies My friend who is Aussie asked where is the bathroom from the same waiter, he showed her the way straight away. Apparently, this place indeed has toilets. Question is, are we back to 1950-1960s where there were coloured/non coloured toilets?? Are you guys that racist?? Asked a waited for the glass, so I could drink some water, she said: there is so many glasses on the table, use one. But all of them were used already, so she just dropped one for me but with the face that she is not pleased with my request. Asked for a plate, same story as in point 2.

Not offering bathroom services to me because I have a different eye cut- Asian is very unhuman and such a low move. Really hope, karma will hit...

We have been to Franco Belge on several occasions, and it has always offered great food and service. I even brought my overseas friends there and celebrated my brother’s birthday at Franco Belge. However, on my birthday June 2024. I was very disappointed. My main dish (duck) was cold and tasteless, and the service wasn’t very good either. I didn’t finish my food and asked for the bill right away. The staff didn’t inquire if I enjoyed my meal or ask if we would like any desserts. When he handed me the bill, he didn’t even say thank you. This experience was upsetting. Perhaps they were too busy that evening. I didn’t say anything since it was my birthday which I had mentioned was a birthday celebration. If I had never been to Franco Belge on previous occasions, I would have given one star for the food and service. I will give it another try, hopefully in 2025, and have a more pleasant dining experience.

We seriously loved everything we tried but the snails in basil? Next level. So packed with flavor, garlicky and fresh, I could’ve eaten like five plates of those alone. Then there was the lamb just so tender it practically melted in my mouth. And don’t get me started on the beef tartare, which was fresh and zingy, totally hitting all the right notes. But the real showstopper? The slow-cooked pork with pickled cabbage. Juicy, rich pork with that tangy crunch from the cabbage? Just heavenly. The vibe at Franco Belge was cozy and just the right mix of casual and fancy. The server was so wonderful and even suggested us what to try and order. Perfect spot if you want to treat yourself without any fuss.
