Our experience at Golden Dragon Palace was thoroughly disappointing and upsetting. Despite clearly informing the staff that we were vegetarians, we were shockingly served chicken spring rolls — a serious and unacceptable oversight. Serving meat to vegetarians is not just a mistake; it shows a complete disregard for customers' dietary needs.

We also ordered an eggplant claypot, expecting the saucy, flavourful dish described on the menu. Instead, we received a dry stir-fry on a plate. When we expressed our concern, they simply brought back the same dry dish in a clay pot — unchanged. It felt like a mockery rather than a genuine attempt to resolve the issue.

To make matters worse, the San Choy Bow entrée we ordered didn't arrive altogether and mains started, there was a total lack of coordination and care.

The manager, who took our order, was particularly unpleasant — dismissive, uninterested, and unwilling to take responsibility for any of the issues we raised. Despite the serious mistake of serving meat to vegetarians, not a single item was removed or discounted from the bill. At that point, we were so off-put that we simply paid and left as quickly as possible.

This was one of the most unprofessional dining experiences we’ve ever had. Golden Dragon Palace showed a complete lack of respect for its customers, and we would strongly advise others — especially those with dietary requirements — to avoid...

I've been trying out a bunch of Chinese dim sum restaurants around here lately, and honestly — this spot has been the best by far! 🥢✨ Every dish was absolutely on point. The flavors were just right — not too salty, not too bland — everything was seasoned perfectly to bring out the authentic taste. 😋🔥 You can tell they really pay attention to the details.

One thing I absolutely love about this place is the traditional dim sum cart service. 🛒 Instead of ordering from a menu, they push the carts around the restaurant, allowing you to see all the dishes up close before picking exactly what you crave. It's such a fun and authentic experience, and it feels way more satisfying being able to choose with your eyes first! 🥰

The space itself is super spacious, bright, and really clean — it gives you a comfortable, relaxed vibe without feeling cramped at all. 🏮🧹 Perfect for a weekend brunch or a casual family gathering.

And the best part? Considering the general price range in Australia, I'd say their prices are very fair and reasonable. 💸 Definitely feels like you're getting quality without the crazy markup.

If you're looking for delicious, authentic dim sum and a great overall experience, this place needs to be on your list. 10/10 would...

I made a booking for yum cha about 2-3 weeks ago and had been looking forward to it for some time, as it has been quite hard to get an available table unless booked early. A few days ago, I called to change the number of attendees. They informed me that they were fully booked and couldn't accommodate more people. I said "never mind" on the phone, thinking my original booking was still confirmed. At no time during the call did I mention the word "cancellation’’.

However, on the actual day, we arrived only to realise our booking had been cancelled! This was incredibly embarrassing as we had guests from overseas with us. Not only had we driven for about half an hour to get to the place as we don’t live close by, but it was also the afternoon session, so finding another place for yum cha was impossible.

I believe the issue arose due to a language barrier. The receptionist, whose mother tongue is non-Cantonese (her mother tongue should be Mandarin), attempted to speak Cantonese but misunderstood "never mind" as a cancellation request. This misunderstanding caused significant inconvenience and embarrassment. Management needs to either employ staff with better language skills or ensure proper training to avoid such issues...

We had both a banquet dinner on a Friday night, and then yum cha first sitting next day over the same weekend. Both experiences were fine, though yum cha was the better of the two. The Peking duck wraps were one of their best dishes with perfectly crispy skin though the trade off is slightly drier duck meat. There were quite a few tables empty on a Friday night which was initially a surprise but less so after the food came out. The beef dishes was well over tenderised and the sauce was thickened with so much corn flour that it became a gel. A lot of the fish dishes still has a lot of bone, and came without a warning. Egg noodles that came with prawn were bland, over cooked and soggy, and I would have quite like to add pepper to everything. The included barley dessert was bland and left mostly untouched by our table. The dumpster was also too close to the Front of the car park entrance and entry to the restaurant which really affected the ambience as the smell wafted towards you as you enter the restaurant. Yum cha in comparison was fine but did not live up to their previous great reputation that we remember If you decide to go here, I would go for yum cha and avoid their banquet dinner

Golden Dragon Palace is hands down one of the best places for Yum Cha in Melbourne. From the moment we walked into the grand dining room — with its traditional décor, chandeliers, and bustling energy — we knew we were in for a treat. The Yum Cha service was seamless and efficient, with trolleys constantly making the rounds offering a huge variety of freshly made dishes. The dumplings were absolutely perfect — delicate, juicy, and full of flavour. Highlights included the har gow, siu mai, and the crispy prawn rolls. Everything came out hot, fresh, and beautifully presented. What sets Golden Dragon Palace apart is not only the quality of the food but the attention to detail and speed of service. Despite how busy it was, we were never left waiting too long, and the staff were warm, helpful, and attentive. The atmosphere is lively without being chaotic — great for groups, family gatherings, or even a weekend treat. It’s clear this is a popular local favourite, and for good reason. If you're craving top-quality Yum Cha with excellent service in an elegant setting, Golden Dragon Palace is a must. We left full, happy, and already planning our next visit.

Golden Dragon Palace Review on 1/12/2017 Review update 18/12/2023 I come to attend a birthday banquet consisting of dishes not from the standard. The serve is much better than before, but I still do not give full star rating for not returning my saying "thank you" when she comes to lay or remove the napkin, plates, etc. It is difficult to evaluate fairly because these are special order, and premium quality ingredients are used. However, I have improved my ranking from 3 stars to 4 stars. ____________________ I attended a pre-wedding banquet on 1 Dec 2017. It was a fairly expensive meal, close to $1,000 per table. Most of the guests were from overseas. Some ingredients may cost more, but most of the dishes are ordinary. There is still plenty of room for improvement especially how the food is presented. I reckon the waiting staff require formal / proper training in serving the patrons and be more attentive. I expected the teapots should be checked occasionally to ensure sufficient tea was in them. While I did not expect the staff to hover around all the time, I do feel that they should have a watchful eye to top up the cups the cups with tea.
